    GETTIN OLD.......

Not being a star athlete can be a blessing as you get older. Thinking about the 6 best athletes in my high school class; 2 are in prison, 3 are dead, and the biggest star of all (he was actually drafted by the NFL after a stellar college stint) is a virtual cripple. In the last ten years...

    Official Post Padding Thread

We must have stayed at the same place. Four of us wandered all over that floor, and were headed back to the lobby for directions when we found the room back in a recess next to the elevator.

    Forum Banner Update Contest!

Too bad I can't hunt it without hiring an outfitter. I will draw an H deer tag next year and plan to dedicate the entire 3 week season to hunt the unit. The main area that I want to explore, I can't.

You need to apply for a "Type 6" tag instead of a "Type 7" tag. Look through the hunting regulations book, and you will see that most of the units that have a "Type 7" also have a "Type 6". If not, you may want look at hunting a different unit.

    2019 OTC 2nd rifle elk

That draw fee is why I decided to get to get off the pot and use my elk points in CO. There was a 3 point jump in the unit I chose, likely because other NRs decided to do the same. I will likely hunt CO again, but only on a tag with 0 points.

    The 2019 Elk Success Thread

(Cont.) Sept. 13th - Ride-in day. I drove back to the same trailhead that I had hiked out of, and met with my guide Eric, and the packer Forest. We loaded up after I climbed upon a big horse named Marshall and rode for 3 hours into the camp. We had turned off of the trail that I had hiked...

    The 2019 Elk Success Thread

That's sure a pretty elk Tim. Congrats. I was finally able to figure out how to get my photos to post (by cropping them), and hopefully it will work here for my elk hunt pics. After six weeks of aggressive pack training, I headed out to Colorado for a solo backpack trip, followed by a one...

    Antelope success thread

I was finally able to post a photo (on the WY thread) by cropping and degrading my picture. If this doe posts, then I can finally do an update on the elk success thread. Still a couple years before I can get a buck tag in this unit. Here's a doe I shot at 420 yards. I usually get a lot...

    October 1st and 2nd weather

Finally, success at posting a photo. I had to crop and degrade the picture, otherwise it was "too big". Here is a pickup that was abandoned in the Wyoming mud. I hate to degrade my scenery and hero shots though. Photo was taken Oct 2nd.

    Leaving In The AM

Life's adventures Jim. It's frustrating to hunt with someone who isn't as physically capable anymore, but we may soon be there ourselves. Rest up and start planning the next one.

The 2019 Mule Deer Success Thread!

Here's a couple recent examples a hunter would (as I just did) walk a good distance while hunting. 1. On my guided elk hunt, we left camp well before first light to get to a glassing spot. When/if game was spotted, we had to get ourselves in position, and if all worked out you still have to...

Gloves - 2019 State of the Union

Just like buying boots, fit is king. I only buy gloves after making sure that they fit. Sometimes L,XL or even XXL. I have meaty palms, moderately short fingers, and a real short thumb. I need to restock since I lost a glove on my last hunt. The best work glove for me are goatskin leather...

Not so little, that's a nice bull. If you had shot a monster and wanted to cape him out for a shoulder mount, then you would have needed to go get a chain saw. Congratulations.

    Rethinking my loads/calibers for deer.

CC, you mentioned the extreme angle of your shot. So, do you have a rangefinder with the angle range compensated for your ammo profile? They call it different things, my Leupold RX1000TBR calls it True Ballistic Range. I traded up to this after I shot a good mule deer at an extreme angle and...
