    Blaze Orange Vest?

I bought a wool "Woolrich" vest years ago, and am still happy with it. I do bring a lightweight mesh vest in case it is too hot for the wool, and I usually fold that over to show some orange on the back of my hunting pack. I wanted to move the pockets higher and at an angle for better access...

    My Dream Hunts List

Every year I try to get out somewhere hunting the western mountains. This year it will be 20 hunts since 2006, and all of them were "dream hunts" at the time. I would love to go on a mountain caribou hunt, knowing the sheep are not ever going to happen for me. I do have high hopes for my...

    September 1....Gun Hunting Season Here!

I love that first picture Roger. It looks like an Outdoor Life cover from the 1950's. Special times, never to be forgotten.

    Muzzy Powder Accuracy

Yup, that is exactly what I am shooting. After settling on this load, I moved off the bench and did some shooting from various "field" positions. After the last range session, I cleaned the TC, and will shoot one fouling shot before I leave for CO. I thought that the .502 was too tight in my...

2019 NW Colorado Archery Muzzleloader Report

Thanks slugz, good luck to all. Am headed to CO in less than two weeks, and am driving my wife crazy. Muzzy elk and deer tags in hand.

    What Ticks Me Off......

One of my biggest peeves is when out of area citidiots buy property back in the woods and immediately post scads of "No Trespassing" signs. I live 22 miles from the nearest small town in an area where the locals have shared for generations. We never post our land, and if you have a problem...

    Hello from Eastern Washington

Thanks AK. I'll have to connect with you this winter as my wife and I are planning an Alaska road trip next summer.

    Who else is...

I've upped my pack weight to 32# by adding a few more items that will be going into the mountains with me. I wanted to see if the Granite Gear backpacking pack will do the job since I won't be carrying a rifle or packing game out with it. The plan is 5 days scouting, fishing, small game...

    Who else is...

Am heading out in a few minutes for my daily "pack training". I upped the pack wt. to 30# and will start using the hiking poles. My speed is pretty well capped at 56 minutes for 3 1/2 miles, and my terrain options are limited. I just weighed in at 184# with a target wt. of 180#, so I think...

    Muzzy Powder Accuracy

I spent the better part of yesterday morning at my gun range, trying to reach out past my 150 yard sight-in distance. Two issues for me at 200 yards; I just can't see well enough with the open sights as I have to hold above the target to account for the drop. Also, the load only will have...

    Hello from Eastern Washington

Welcome to the forum, and great pictures. Was the caribou pic out of Tok a mountain caribou?

    Who else is...

I have been slowly upping my pack weight and speed on my daily 3 1/2 mile training hikes. Am up to a 27# pack and doing the distance in 56 min. I have to force myself to not break out into a run, as I had to quit running years ago for a reason. It is so easy to get injured or...

Mtnguide In The Magazine And On Eastmans' Elevated

I really enjoyed the conversation between Brian and Steve. My EHJ arrived yesterday and I went straight to Steve's story on page 26. It's good to see such success for someone who works this hard at doing what he loves, and still takes the time to help us all out on the forum with his...

    altitude pills

I have been on trips with younger guys who were in great shape who had problems at altitude. I'm not talking about just sucking wind, as that is a given, but headaches, dizziness, and even numbness in the extremities. I only had what I thought was the headache from the altitude on my first...

    GETTIN OLD.......

Compared to you CC, I'm just a kid (67 in a couple weeks). It worked to my advantage that I wasn't much of an athlete...always a participant but not a competitor. My older neighbor has had 2 knees and 1 hip replaced, and he missed on one hunt due to the last hip replacement. He is suffering...

    Colorado Left Over Tag List

ColoradoV, you seem to be the go-to guy for big bucks in CO. I hunted #43 4 times, and did take a decent (for me) buck with my MZL in 2014, and hunted it again last year. Unfortunately that hunt was impacted by a non-hunting partner with limited time, and by some horseback hunters who had no...

    Colorado Left Over Tag List

I sure didn't need another tag, but when I saw that there was one early rifle deer tag for a unit that I had been point creeped twice on, I decided to give it a try. I was planning to come out a week before my elk hunt to get acclimated anyway, and figured that if I somehow got this tag it...

Holy BaGeeze but that's some pretty country. The only thing missing for a 10 star photo is the long white coat. Congratulations.

    Elk units 86, 92, 94

The bottom of an old quarry would work. Don't forget to plug up one nostril and tape your mouth shut to simulate high altitude.

    Muzzy Powder Accuracy

I have to make a correction on that, I forgot that I had adjusted the rear sight after a few more shots, so that initial (clean bore) was only 6" low. In comparison, my 338 is about an inch off at 100yds for a clean bore shot, and my 30-06 doesn't change.
