    Fishing the Big Horns

Dan; Maybe I was just lucky with the first one that I tried, and it's possible that other colors and sizes would work also. I think that a big part was that I was able to access the whole lake, and caught all of my grayling a good ways from shore. That one spinner put 27 grayling in the boat...

Another article on Wyoming's tough winter

If you have a feeder in your back yard all year, and have a variety of feed options then deer seem to be able to adapt to it. There are certainly other reasons for not doing so (CWD, vehicle collisions, etc.) Just throwing out some corn or hay in the middle of winter might make you feel good...

We had a great turnout of league teens, so that I ended up having to do very little shoveling. The coaches brought a variety of shovels, since most of the kid's shovels were plastic and wouldn't cut the hard snow banks. It's hard to find a good steel snow shovel these days, but we had some...

    Fishing the Big Horns

I was in several WY lakes last fall, and caught cut-throat in the Wind Rivers, rainbows and Kokanee salmon in rivers, brookies and a brown in Soda Lake, and I finally tried for Grayling in Willow Lake. The water was very low, and mucky on the receded shoreline, and those fishing from shore had...

    Elk Muzzleloader

I forgot to post that I used 110 gr. of #209 powder. I also use sabot bullets for deer in Minnesota, and would continue to do so if we still had any deer left in the NE part of the state. I found that I could shoot more accurately at longer distances with them, but that's not an option in CO...

    Elk Muzzleloader

Having the advantage of my own rifle range (200yds.) allowed me to spend the time to find what works best for my 50 cal. TC Omega. Most inlines are rated for a max of 150 grains of powder, but that should never be your starting point. I started at 100 gr. of Shockey Gold, and over several...

Today will be a brutal workout. Our High School Trap team is gathering at the gun range and will be digging out from over 120" of snow. The big equipment has done what they can, but now is time for the shovel brigade. Last year the skidster mounted snowblower ate a picnic table and one of our...

    Knee Replacement Surgery

SOUNDS GREAT CC. How is the limited activity expected to affect the knee replacement?

WY Region H or unit 78

By the time that I have the points to draw H again, the 4 to 5 year old year class will not exist if this winter keeps hammering them. My earlier photo on this thread was in 2011. My last trip was in 2020, and there were lots of young deer, but only two small 4x4s. I just filled two elk tags...

    Wolves

I read the write up on the two dogs that were killed. One was a border collie that had been out with some sheep and guard dogs, and the other was a companion dog. Wildlife officials verified that the collared wolves had been in that vicinity as determined by the tracking. It wasn't stated in...

Marcus: I eventually decided to limit my outdoor running in the winter due to ice and the risk of falling or being struck by vehicles. I hated the treadmill, but that filled my aerobic training needs until the big thaw. Alas, my running days are behind me though. I broke my plow...

    Knee Replacement Surgery

Sorry to hear that CC....it's those unexpected incidents that come up and bite you the worst. You've come a long way the last couple years, and now you have the challenge of this recovery while maintaining your weight loss without being able to get around much. As Chief Dan George said...

Tim; Great photos. I'll have to remember to take some the next time I am out. The last time I was in the area that I rode yesterday, we came across 7 deer kills and one moose kill. All were accomplished by wolves, and it looked like a war zone when they kill a moose out on a lake. Now...

    Who else is...

Two of us rode all day in the outback country with no other snowmobile tracks in sight. Rivers, lakes, old railroad right of ways, brush where old trails used to be. We got stuck, broke thru the ice, were occasionally lost, and we loved every minute. (Well maybe not during the stuck part.)...

I agree with you Tim about "going all day". I have had to adjust my exercise routine as I've moved into my 7th decade. I am still up and doing something all day, and surprised myself when in Wyoming this past fall that I could still hump the mountains with a full pack. Am headed out shortly...

I am bout to go outside for my plow and shovel exercise routine. I will likely be at it for much of the day because I am running out of room for places to put it. After the truck, it is the tractor's turn. Ae least it is supposed to get above freezing today, and stay above 20 all week.

    Idaho CWD Control Plans

It's no different for us humans. In the US, roughly 38K from cars, 20K from murders, animals - not many, weather - 1K+, disease - all the rest of us......there's no getting out alive.

We are around 100" this season and more coming down right now. My 22 year old plow truck and V plow are going to need a long rest) and some repairs this spring. The few deer that were left up here are likely to go extinct for the rest of my hunting life.

Where or how are the snowmobiles provided? If you provide your own, I suppose that you would have to ride back to the start.

    50's Gun Shop/Sporting Goods Store

I now live only 50 miles from Ely. After I retired from law enforcement, I was able to spend seven summers as a wilderness canoeing guide in the area and two provinces of Canada. Like much of rural America, Ely is struggling economically. Tourism doesn't pay all the bills, and the Feds...
