    2023 draw

Funny how things change as you age. I've got a few tags that I'll chase until they throw dirt in my face but most of them I just put in for the ones that I know that I'll draw, but even those are getting harder to draw. That's the big problem when you have the number of hunters who want to...

    Broken Stuff

As I found out you can take care of those weak links, if you want to spend the money. 2 titanium alloyed axles ran around $500 30 years ago, I can just imagine what they cost now. The brake drums and rotars are a little cheaper.

    Broken Stuff

I learned that when you improve one part the next failure will be down the line somewhere. I built performance 1600 class VW engines. Then I learned how to beef up the transaxle, the next thing in line were the axles and rear brake drums. To improve the axles would of cost too much but I had a...

Opinions needed for Daughter's new rifle

Personally I would stay away from a muzzle brake, they are just plain and simple not fun to be around unless you have hearing protection on. If you have a 300 Win mag has she shot it? Instead of a 300 magnum how about a good old 30-06 or a 270 or even a 7mm Rem mag? As long as the range is...

    factory ammo samples

I know that years ago I would just purchase a box of ammo to shoot. If it wasn't the best shooting I didn't worry about it but it usually shot well enough to actually go hunting with. I have seen quite a few questions and threads on other forums asking when it was that we needed MOI ammo for...

    75-25% for Colorado

I think that they would want to work out a trade but what does Colorado have that any of the other states might want. But then CP&W's pockets are real deep so they just may buy some wolves somewhere. I looked at the final plan on the first area that they plan on releasing the wolves and I'm...

    factory ammo samples

Since I am a reloader I have always hoped for 1/4 lb sample cans of powder, but it'll never happen. The only loaded rifle rounds that I have ever seen in a 5 pack have been the very large bore cartridges, and most of them come in a 10 pack. I don't think that it would be very economical...

    Wolves

But yet they still don't know where they are going to get the wolves from. I can see other states balking at letting Colorado come in and trap wolves from their states since that would or could adversely affect their reintroduction and or plans on hunting wolves. But then there is always...

    First African safari completed

If you are planning a safari may I suggest that you head over to a different forum. It is mostly for African hunting and there is some great advise for the first time hunter and even for those who have been over a dozen times. It has threads from everything from tipping the help to who to go...

    First African safari completed

It is surprising at the number of hunters who go to Texas to shoot exotics on a high fence ranch that doesn't even come close to the size of the farms in South Africa. I looked at a warthog hunt down in south east Texas and I could go to South Africa and hunt for 10 days with a dozen...

    First African safari completed

Mine should be on its way, I hope. When dealing with African time you never know. Here is a list of prices from the shop that I am having my work done at in South Africa. The shipping home will be more expensive but my taxidermist here in Colorado jumped his prices and everything got pushed...

    Africa Lion Hunt Next Level

It appears that he hit the lion low behind the front leg. But it is hard to really tell.

    Point banking revisited..

I don't recall if Colorado ever had point banking, at least I never read about it nor did I even think of something like that. Cow tags could be had every year and the premium bull units took quite a few points to draw. Deer didn't go to a full on draw until 94 or 95.

    Point banking revisited..

Point banking is only using the amount of points that is needed to draw a tag for a unit that you have more than enough to draw that tag. So let's say that you have 20 points and you find a unit that you want to hunt that the max points is only 5 points. You put in for that unit and when you...

    Point banking revisited..

All point banking will do is to compound the problem of point creep instead of moving the applicants through the system. If I hadn't used all my points for both deer and elk a few years ago I would have over 20 points for each right now. I see no problem in drawing a lesser hunt with 10 points...

    First African safari completed

Once again, that's a great hunt. Warthogs are my nemesis. I missed one last year at 100 yards but redeemed myself with one at about 30. I should of also taken zebra, but perhaps that may give me a reason to go back. Did you get to eat any of the meat? While most of my meat went to the...

This has been floating around for a couple of weeks, just thought that I'd post it up about the wolves: https://www.vaildaily.com/news/colorado-tribe-only-wants-wolves-reintroduced-in-area-that-includes-routt-county-will-cpw-listen/

    Africa Lion Hunt Next Level

I'll wager that it was a canned lion hunt from a captive bred lion. They release the lion a couple of days before the hunt to make it as real as possible. The PH's problem was not backing out to let the lion relax some before getting close to the lion. The hunters problem was using a...
