I already took the animal that would be on the top of the list, that being a mountain goat. Did a DIY hunt in Montana in 1998 and helped my younger brother with his Montana DIY hunt in 1987.
Never really did have a "list" or anything like that, but the few animal I'd like to hunt before the...
Not a horrible article, but pretty slanted, IMO.
On the one hand, the author is promoting sound scientific management of bears (which I agree with), but then complaining about the best available science for estimating populations. Why? Because the numbers don't fit an agenda? Even if the...
S. 339 makes the commerce clause irrelevant and reaffirms the states right to discriminate against NR hunters anyway they see fit.
In reference to the commerce clause Sec. 2(b)...

Very common.
Outfitters apply "parties" together to utilize points of the combined group.
They offer discounted hunts to high point holders so that they can increase the likelihood of a high paying client drawing more often.
...and that's the tip of the iceberg.
What we do know is that MT, NV, CO, all had more applicants than they ever have.
That trend is likely to continue and I would suspect that WY will be no different. I doubt more people pulled their applications than we have new applicants. Meaning...point creep and applicants marches on. I heard...

When my wife and I built our house, left the downstairs a pretty open floorplan specifically for our taxidermy. Everything with the exception of the dall sheep are DIY on public land or publicly accessible private (block management, WIA's, etc.).
Not the best pictures...but you get the idea...
Uhhh because in the "outlying areas" populations are so low that no bears will be killed? For there to be enough interest in a season, a hunter has to have a reasonable chance of actually finding a bear to kill. Hunting problem bears is also not as easy as it sounds. Grizzly bears spend a lot of...
That would depend on a lot of things.
The theory assumes that the hunters would shoot the easiest accessible and first animal they found. It would have to assume that the animals the hunter kills, also spends a majority of its time near people so they're less fearful of people. What happens...
Hunting can increase population density, in particular if you kill adult males. Which you're correct, will increase competition among bears for available habitat and food. Increase in population also causes more dispersal into marginal habitat and habitat where bears are in more contact with...
Winchester,
Glad to know you're the only person who's ever spent time around grizzlies or had any experience with them.
If I have any questions about grizzly behavior, grizzly hunting, or really anything...I'll make sure I get in touch with you first to make sure you haven't "been there and...
When you can find some research, that a grizzly bear can tell whether a gun shot means "danger, I'm being shot at" VS "Food, I just heard a gunshot"...feel free to post it up.
Laffin'...
There have been steps taken to lower the encounters. Back in the "good old days" people fed bears from vehicles in Yellowstone and a high percentage of the bears were food conditioned at garbage dumps in the Park. More education near areas where bears frequent, secure garbage cans, securing...
Totally agree its wise to pack a firearm and/or spray.
Totally disagree with the rest...ever heard people say that grizzly bears hear a gunshot and its about like ringing the dinner bell?
How would a bear know if they hear a shot and should run away or run toward the gunshot?
Bottom line...
I don't agree with the lawsuit moving forward. I cant speak to Idaho, but Wyoming does a good job of not allowing bear baiting in high use grizzly bear areas. There are also measures in place on how to handle a situation where a grizzly starts hitting baits intended for black bears.
I also...
IME, and from the animals I've shot and seen shot with the 7mm with both the 120 BT and 150 BT...you wont be having any problems.
I've shot some animals with the 140 BT as well from the 7mm and never had a problem with them either.
If you cross section the bullets though, you'll find that...
