What is your go to elk rifle / ammunition combo?

This has not been my experience with BT's. My nephew shot this one, 70 yards, busted the near shoulder, broke a rib, caught just under the hide in front of the off-side shoulder...120 grain ballistic tip from a 7-08 MV 2825... Recovered bullet: Another one he shot last year, same rifle...

What is your go to elk rifle / ammunition combo?

I put together a 7-08 several years back. Likes 140 grain accubonds at around 2850fps. Good elk rig, light, handy, accurate, fun to shoot. Have shot 16 elk with it.

    Big 3 draw

Ewe bighorn from Montana...a long time ago in the glory days of upper Rock Creek: Moose from Montana, also a long time ago. Applied for a unit with crap odds hoping I wouldn't draw as I had a dall sheep hunt to do. Terrible tag, it didn't start until Nov. 15th access was an issue and bulls...

    Post Your Favorite Hunting Picture!

One of my favorites...no posse of people, just my Dad, Brother, and I hunting sheep...the way it should be. Dad finally drew in Montana after applying for a long, long time in a unit in Western Montana. I had plenty of vacation time and was able to spend about a week looking at rams before Dad...

    MT Mule Deer over $600?

Not in accordance to the constitution...IN SPITE of the constitution. The commerce clause it what USO used to sue (successfully) the State of Arizona and why Arizona had to redraw a bunch of NR tags in around 2004. This law had to be implemented to change the way the commerce clause was...

    Fed checks arrived on time

For ONE week? Different story if people were getting unemployment for say...a grand, plus another $1200 a week...for 26 weeks. Plus, unemployment isn't the same as getting a handout. Its an insurance policy paid by the employer, part of your benefit package as an employee. I would be more...

    Fed checks arrived on time

I agree with you, sad that multimillion/billion dollar companies had their hands out that quickly and don't have enough liquid assets to cover expenses and pay their employees for a few weeks. I also do have pretty big soft spot for folks that work their tails off at low paying jobs then get...

    Fed checks arrived on time

How do you feel about this? https://www.marketwatch.com/story/its-a-complete-abomination-says-wall-street-money-manager-about-hedge-funds-applying-for-bailouts-from-small-business-recovery-funds-2020-04-14 Pretty tough for me to throw shade at people that lost their jobs and get $1200 with...

    Fed checks arrived on time

Do you feel the same way about capping multibillion "too big to fail" companies to $1200 stimulus checks and an additional $600 a week for 4 months to help them get by? How much of the 2.2 trillion that Congress passed and Big Daddy signed, is going to the working class and how much is going to...

What should I expect hunting in Montana?

This season will be my 40th season hunting Montana. Outside of turkeys, lion, wolves, and possibly black bears, there is no hunting that is better now than when I started in 1979, in particular on public land. Sheep, moose, goat, mule deer, elk (on public land), and whitetail hunting are much...

    Fed checks arrived on time

Pretty sad that people make so little working 40+ hours a week, that they make more drawing unemployment. That's the problem...

    Hunting Industry Meltdown?

Everyone complains about the way hunting is commercialized, the second something might be a threat to it...complain about that too. Don't get it...

Do you suppose any of the people that stopped the spring bear season ever thought, "I just don't think we'll ever stop this spring bear hunting"? I assure you they said it, thought it, and yet kept after it until they got their way. It wasn't a one year campaign. If we're just "wishing", my...

Lots of things start out as "tall orders"...yet all it took to make huge changes is a couple people with enough pluck to stop talking, stop expecting "they" to fix their problems, and start doing. Wasn't long ago that Montana had NO stream access law. Wasn't that long ago you couldn't...

I'm just curious what your action plan is for getting spring bear seasons back in Colorado...honestly. How is asking that being an "A-hole"? Seems there's more than enough bears to warrant it, yet nobody seems to be doing anything to change the??? If you're doing something, is it a regulation...

Well, just sit at home and keep wishing "they" would bring a spring season back. I'm sure "they" will get right on that. So what's your action plan to get the spring season back?

Let the gov't goat slaughter begin!

Sooty grouse, dusky grouse, franklin's, ruffed grouse, sharp tails, and sage grouse. Yes, Wyoming has chukars as well...Cody/Thermopolis area, I saw a bunch this year while sheep hunting. We also have goats on the beartooth plateau, goats around Alpine in the Snake River area. California...
