That and these bear tags take a long time to draw, so most likely the landowner your asking don't have a tag, or even know anyone that does have one or will have one for years.

Once you get your site prepared, I'd drive around and knock on a few doors and ask for permission.

Wouldn't hurt to take a .22 even and just shoot some before you shot the .308. Nothing wrong with you shooting 50 yards, but I'd shoot closer also. Sat on a bait at 12 yards for my last bear, I'd aim for treestand/blind to bait of 20ish yards. Good on you getting out long before season and...

100% true! Watched a ton of dairy farmers go from 7 days a week to retired, watching TV 7 days a week from their new lazy boy recliner. Man those guys didn't last long.

If you can't find any grease its worth a try, could put some liquid smoke in it, bacon grease, meat scraps. Maybe try a small batch first.

Good deal. Never baited in Michigan just didn't know, theres a good amount of state that way that don't allow meat. Dan brings up a good point, if you put meat in your bait and it sits a few days it could go rancid and then nothing will touch it. Think cooked grease would be great, to bad your...

I know several guys back in Wisconsin that bait every year, once you tell the manager/owner that you're using it to run a bear bait site, they have zero issues getting all the fry oil they want. You won't need that much for a few baits you can only run for a month before season, 5 gallons per...

Looks good! Double check michigan regs if you can use meat. I know a lot of states allow deep fry grease, but not actual meat. If you can get your hangs on a couple gallons of fry grease that works good to throw up in the trees around your bait to scent it up, then when a bear does come in it...

Most people will be looking for bait sites that they can hang a tree stand. Look for large areas that you can't hang a stand and set a ground blind. You'll likely have the place to yourself, along with bears like the thick stuff anyway.

Find a large dry piece of pine log about 24" high, 20-30" across then carve a hole in one end with a chainsaw. Place a small flat piece of wood over the top with a rock on it. Rock needs to be big enough that raccoons can't knock it off, this will save a lot of bait, and frustration.

Just fine, but I'm not retired. Only thing I'm not buying right at the moment is single company stocks, but I'm not selling any either. Have monthly contributions set for 401k, 401k roth, roth Ira, won't be stopping those.
