It depends on what I'm hunting. Bears take a lot of glassing. Moose I generally call and listen. Caribou I glass a lot. Sitka deer I usually do a fair amount. I have a pair of 10 x 40 Zeiss and a 8-12 x 42 Leica.

So, I read that NPS was able to kill and waste 36 goats before being shut down. The institutional arrogance of the Park Service is appalling.

It's very good to see Wyoming's Governor stand up to the Park Service over this issue. I believe that the decision to shoot and waste these goats is based neither on good science or common sense. Just another defiant Park Service superintendent.

Looks like a well thought out list. Me personally, I wouldn't bother with the handgun when I have a .300 Winchester. I would leave it and add an Inreach or SAT phone.

We're seeing a trend towards limiting tags and hunting opportunities for non-resident hunters. I see it up here in Alaska too. I personally think that states should absolutely protect the resident citizens but there has to be some reasonableness in it. I don't know if the 90/10 split is best...

I agree, I don't really care that my rifle weighs a little more than some of the super ultralites! I tried to convince my wife that I needed a rifle that was a pound or two lighter, and she told me to lose 10 pounds from my gut and I'd be money ahead! Go figure!

The black bears we eat. The grizzlies are generally converted into pelts! I've eaten some grizzly and brown bears...yuck.
