I'm just hoping that by Sept 10th the boarder with Canada is open so I can go on my bear hunt. Not looking good currently.

Had to do some more clothes shopping this weekend. Losing weight is expensive lol. Have had to update all my hunting gear.. was hoping to give it its first run in September but might have to wait for the michigan opener in Oct for deer
Yup Marcus, I feel your pain. The border is now closed until the end of July, and we had to cancel our 3rd attempt for an Ontario fishing trip. Who knows how many of the resorts or outfitters will even remain in business after losing a full season. My wife & I had been planning an Alaska road trip, but had decided otherwise before all this hit. It would have been moot by now anyway. I have a 350 mile canoe trip to the Arctic Ocean booked for 2021, but that outfitter had to cancel all trips this year in the Yukon and NW Territory, so it's wait and see.

My big issue is I wont be able to go again till 2023 cause of other vacations planned for 2021 and 2022(dad going with my mom 3 weeks out west) and our bear guide is 72 this year so not sure how long he will be doing it for. Also trying to figure out a year to go to Wyoming for antelope in there. Kinda a muddled mess lol

Marcus, I would suggest that you start making some alternative plans for the time period of the Canada bear hunt. Perhaps not anything that you have to pre-book. Maybe even just a scouting trip for some future hunt.

After retiring as a police officer, I spent 7 summers as a canoeing guide in wilderness areas of the US and Canada. Managed over 3,000 miles in a canoe, and had planned for an expedition from Lake Superior to Hudson's Bay. But, both times the 20 somethings had life get in the way and dropped out. At 67, most of my friends are too old, fat, sick, or dead to do many of the things that I am still driven to do. I did make a real effort to line up an Alaska hunting trip, but the expense, logistics, etc. made it a no-go for now. The Arctic trip is with an older Canadian friend who has expansive experience in the far north, and we've been on a couple trips together already. We should get to see plenty of caribou, musk ox, tundra griz, etc. while fishing for grayling, lake trout, and char.

Looking forward to the stories and pictures Ric!

The Wyoming deer/antelope draw is coming up on the 18th, and it is almost a sure bet for me with 4 pts. for the H tag. The prospects aren't too good for a booner buck this year, but waiting a few more years isn't really an option so it will be game on. My biggest challenge is that my hunting partner has limited time to go, so I suspect that we will just pack into a spot where we've gotten a couple good bucks in the past, and the after he leaves to do some exploring. There's one particular drainage that I yearn to see, but it is 14 miles back through some extreme country. If I shot a deer back there it would require a one day packout, then a return trip to get camp. 56 miles solo in griz country; sounds like a solid plan to me. Again - don't tell my wife.

Yeah we are suppose to hunt sept 12-19 leaving the 19th on the morning and driving to the UP to do a salmon charter on lake Superior the 20th. Already talked to my dad and brother about doing a UP trip and small game hunt and fish and tour around if the bear hunt is cancaled. Since the charter wouldn't be cancaled since it's in Michigan. Talked about shorting the trip a tad bear hunt was supposed to be 10th-21st with drive times. Talked doing like the 14th-21st. 15th starts small game in michigan. Maybe even sign up for another fishing charter. Just kinda trying to go with things even though I have a hard time with not knowing what's going to happen lol

If all my plans fall through, I may be looking for a camping option in the Rockies... I like to pickup heavy things and run long distances. ;)

Since we found out we got our Montana General Deer license my goal will be to get my dad his first mule deer. Dad (Hes 70 this year) and I have been serious hunters all of our lives but have never went on a hunting trip together so I am hoping it will be a good time.

When I was younger (0-25) we didn't get along to well so I am hoping this trip brings us back together even if its just a little bit. Our issues and problems have always been 50/50. Now that him and I have both mellowed out a bit and some time has passed I am hoping to take the high road and turn the page before its too late. Time sure fly's by fast.

My wife and her dad will also be there and seeing her dad get his first mule deer will also be really cool.

I hope I can share pictures from the trip with the forum.

Things keep changing that is for sure. I wasn't worried about this fall, just go buy my 2 elk tags and 2 deer tags and go hunt. But nonresident tags will sell out in idaho, before residents can pick them up. My alaska remote float trip got cancelled due to my wife breaking her leg.
But my busines for the month of june is up 102%. The bummer on that one, is that the manufacturers are very slow at producing right now. So no resupply.
I guess i got to go and find some hunt this fall now. One deer and elk tag are not enough.

Mades me think of this quote by Mark Twain:
“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

I sure hope you have a great trip with your Dad !!
