I used a hybrid last year. Only 1 super low gear. My butt was dragging the whole time. REI had a cpl 29er's at half price and I let them go by. Not sure what I'll get this year but It will be a 29er and probably 3" tires.

I bought a motobecane a couple months back from bikesdirect.com and I really, really like it. The power disc brakes are unreal and for my needs right now it fit the bill.

I like high end bikes, with that said. Disc brakes are must. Especially with a loaded trailer. component quality( brakes, shifters) trumps suspension. Front suspension is pretty nice, though. The nicer bikes just shift easier, stop quicker and generally hold up better. Rear racks are nice. Tire size is a whole nother matter that could be its own thread. just don't buy a trailer that fits one wheel size and a bike that is another wheel size. If you have any questions, ask away.

I have mainly used my bikes hunting on gated roads. I am a mountain biker and ride a lot of single track in the summer though. a lot of single track.

Don't kid yourself guys, you'll need to be in shape and used to riding if there are any hills to climb. It's just as difficult to ride up as walk and you have an extra 25-35 pounds of bike and whatever the trailer weighs to carry with you. They are great for covering distance in less time over flat ground which is the main advantage. Consider you're fitness and hunting area before investing.

funny, but you are right, this is not the form of hunting most bubbas would employ, to much exercise is needed to bike the mountains.

That is awesome. And you should permanently mount that spike on the front! To hell with the handling, looks badass lol
