Man! Those pics are great! And enticing for yet another hobby! Just need to convince the wife. That lake pic is one of the best I've seen here.

I'm not a "Flying Walenda" like Tim, but just returned from an 8 day trip to Idaho/MT snowmobiling. In a different way, it is as much fun as hunting, and in the same way, there is definitely a learning curve. The snows around Island Park. ID and West Yellowstone, MT. are close to normal. We saw a fair number of moose in the willow flats, and even one high up on the mountain that refused to leave the trail and go into the deeper snow. I do have three apps out in two states that are in the "getting hammered" zones, so I am bummed about that. Time will tell.

Hey, I miss that area. I should visit. Lots of places to go there. I always liked the Green River Lakes area. Take a picture of ole Squaretop in the winter for me if you go there. Snowmobiles always made some nice snowshoe trails over there, but it would have been a heck of a walk to get back there for me so I never made it in the winter. I should get one of those machines.

There will be no winter feeding in Wyoming, a smart move by the Department. Its a huge waste of resources and there is strong science that shows how ineffective feeding is for deer. The money that would be spent on feeding is better allocated to improving habitat, maintaining travel corridors, etc.

do they not feed them annually at the elk refuge in Jackson?

For elk or deer? Big difference between feeding deer and feeding elk.

If you're talking deer yeah, there probably are some deer on the feed grounds. From what I'm hearing, a good portion of the deer that are still in the Jackson area may buy the farm. But, about 90% of the deer herd around Jackson migrates out of the area into Idaho or Southern Wyoming.

I fully support the WGF department not feeding deer.

I was gonna say if he got to Pinedale and the hotels were full or something with roads closing. I can give him a number or something.

Probably should have tried a pm, just thought of that, sorry.

A 35 year old man from Alpine was killed in an avalanche while snowmobiling this week. He was the owner of an outfitting business and a real nice guy. It's a really sad deal.

Josh was a top notch all around guy. He was always the one to ride safe. What slid wasn't something anyone expected to go. He was riding through trees came out in an open and got stuck..he stepped off his sled and everything released. Terrible deal. Nothing is safe right now. All of Hoback canyon has slid unlike anything anyone's seen in many years.

Mid winter flights will start next week by G&F to check on wintering conditions around the NW. Sounds like some wind and rain hit Jackson and opened up some slopes for browse and grazing, good for deer left in the area. Hopefully the flights will not uncover catastrophic winterkill.
