Time is here to apply for NER bison permits. Those of you who drew Wyoming bison need to apply for the Elk Refuge permit then get another time slot after the draw. You must have a permit to get on the refuge before you can get alternate times. Most all of the cow bison hunting is on the refuge.View attachment 16816

First round of National Elk Refuge permits are drawn. I encourage everyone with a Bison tag to get another slot in December. You must have a NEF HMA permit to get on the refuge, that is where the bison are. Bulls can be found on the forest but most all cows come off of the refuge. This is a migration hunt so don't plan on them being there on your dates. Call the Jackson office of the G&F, they want the bison hunters to call almost everyday during the migration period. Last year was an anomaly, the bison did not move until late December when they usually start over early December. The Jackson office gals are the best and can help with any questions.

4 Bulls down so far in Wyoming. Fires have not affected their range or movement yet. Counting down to my December hunt.

Called Moyle Mink and Tannery to pay off bison tanning and it gets shipped today. Can't wait to see spouse's bison hide. It should be very hairy . Hopefully I'll have one to send in for a rug after my hunt!

The hide alone was about $450 based on size, the head was about $265. They got it done ahead of the stated time frame. Moyle is great for us so far. Many beavers tanned through them and they are beautiful.

About 500 bison near Kelly on Monday. Extrememly cold for the weekend so layer up if you give it a try.Wet snow on the ground and frigid temps coming to make for concrete type snow on the weekend. Know your target.

Now is the time to start calling the Jackson office of G&F at least weekly. They will tell where the bison are and if it is advisable to come over for your hunt. 307-733-2321, They ask that all bison hunters call before they come out to check the status of the herd. They need to be crossing the Gros Ventre River to be hunted. Looks very promising now for the rest of the season.

The bison are on the refuge. Anyone with a tag can call the Jackson office and get a day permit. The hunt is on finally and going well. Make sure to pick up your biological sample kit at the office. Good luck all. New Years cow for me , I hope!!

A pile got taken yesterday...including 2 bulls shot by cow tag hunters...if you are hunting cows, do your damn homework and study the differences. They are not necessarily easy to tell the difference between a younger bull and cows...it is your responsibility to know what the hell your shooting at

Wow... not very difficult imo. Here is an "exam" that may help; https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwir5abZmIjRAhWF5oMKHV3JD5sQFggaMAA&url=https://wgfd.wyo.gov/bisonid/default.aspx&usg=AFQjCNHvf0N-TigTU2wbS5DJVY5LNedY1g&sig2=UnH3LEWXJ7knj9UI_Zl0uQ&bvm=bv.142059868,d.eWE

Guess it doesn't surprise me though. Growing up by Laramie we heard of many moose shot through the years by people thinking the were elk. Don't want to hunt near those people.

Wow, that probably will be expensive hunt. Are they getting fine and allowed to take the bull or what is the punishment?
