If you had a choice between Wyoming Area 32 or 100 which would you pick and why. I have been putting in for 32 for several years and read a little about 100 just recently. Iam having a hard time with what area to put in for. Please give me yalls opinion on both and which is your choice.
thanks

Both good hunts. Bulls in 32 are prone to bail across the state line. Unit 100 is hunting elk in antelope country with extremely high success. I hope you have max points applying for those two units.

I have 9 points going in and been putting in as the special license also for a little more advantage. I know it is gonna be hard to draw ethier but want to get a game plan as I keep applying in the future.

I don't think 32 is necessarily the best of the trio down there. UH is right that once bullets start flying it can get difficult. If you asked me which tag I'd pick of the two, I'd pick 100 all day. 32 might be a better archery hunt although people have plenty of success in 100. It's still not my favorite tag

With one point below max you may as well have zero points when looking at this region. Your only chance to draw either tag is through the random draw. 32 had fewer applicants last year but it was still only a 10% draw in the special for max point holders. Unless something drastically changes you have a lot of years of waiting before you will have a realistic chance at drawing either tag.

That said, I would choose area 100 if your in for the long haul. Very unique experience hunting elk in the desert.

You are pre planning for a hunt in 20 or so years from now. Not wanting to rain on your parade but it will take 9 more years just to go through the folks that applied last year with max points in the special pool. That's best case scenario hoping that no one in the max point pool jumps in. There are over 2k folks with max points. Just trying to help see that it will be a very long wait with less than max points for both hunts you mention. Good luck.

You could kill multiple bulls in WY the caliber you would in those units in the time it will take you to draw either one if you're willing to work a little. WY is a state to hunt not wait to hunt IMHO.

I really don't understand the fascination with 30-32. Yeah some decent bulls get killed but it's no giant slayer. Is it the ease of the hunt? Coworker shot a 374 in 31 a couple years ago and it's one of the bigger ones I've seen get shot. Most elk I see get shot are 320-330

You have zero chance to draw 32, there are no random tags for 30-32.
Exactly, with 9 points you will only have a chance at a random tag for many years. Here are your draw odds for the two units mentioned for the past 3 years. As WB mentioned, you had no chance at a tag in 2015 in Unit 32 in the random draw.

Unit 32 - 2013 (regular license): 1 tags with 158 applicants = 0.63%
Unit 32 - 2014 (regular license): 1 tags with 172 applicants = 0.58%
Unit 32 - 2015 (regular license): 0 tags with 233 applicants = 0.00%

Unit 32 - 2013 (special license): 1 tags with 80 applicants = 1.25%
Unit 32 - 2014 (special license): 1 tags with 49 applicants = 2.04%
Unit 32 - 2015 (special license): 0 tags with 107 applicants = 0.00%

Unit 100 - 2013 (regular license): 3 tags with 539 applicants = 0.56%
Unit 100 - 2014 (regular license): 2 tags with 526 applicants = 0.38%
Unit 100 - 2015 (regular license): 1 tag with 583 applicants = 0.17%

Unit 100 - 2013 (special license): 2 tags with 195 applicants = 1.03%
Unit 100 - 2014 (special license): 2 tags with 162 applicants = 1.23%
Unit 100 - 2015 (special license): 1 tag with 218 applicants = 0.46%

The best draw odds and trophy quality combined with good public access are not found in the southern portion of the state.

320 to 330 can be found in every general unit. Blow your points on a good unit I.e. Green Chip and then hunt general nearly every year.

Look at area 24 w/ 9 points, might draw in the special one of these years. Not worth it to wait 20 years for a 300-320 bull, go learn an area and hunt every other year...shoot ten bulls in the same time frame.

Rich is right. I have three nonresidents with max points who have been lurking in the background for 10 years now. They have never applied for any draw so they have never shown up in any of the draw stats. Next year they (and others) may apply for the first time and upset someone's best laid plans.

Exactly! I am one of those with max points but I don't apply every year, just when my schedule looks like it would permit the time. Applied last year but I won't apply this year.

I got family that live in Wyoming and they know areas 32 and 100 very well. This some of the reason I continue to try for those. So what other areas do you recomend that has good public access to get a decent bull!

I've never seen or heard of anything big being shot in unit 100. Is it popular because the ease of hunting and animal numbers?

Regardless of your desire to wait for either area, I hunted antelope in Elk area 100. It is a very dry desert hunt. I jumped
a group of 5 bulls right off of a sand dune NE of rock springs. I saw loads of elk. Large bachelor groups that were still
together at the start of September. Very little cover, challenge for archery. I think it would be a blast if you could draw the
tag.
