Putting this out to the masses even though I know how I am interpreting it.......and I do have a call in to to the Warden to verify. Long story short I have reached out to some Ranches trying to get access to private for this up coming Antelope season. I just talked to a rancher who told me since I applied for a Type 1 tag I would be restricted to public land only and that if I wanted to seek private access I would have needed to apply for a type 2 tag. His argument was that the tags were not interchangeable which I believe he is only half correct.

The way I interpret it is that a Type 1 tag can be used for ANY Antelope on both Public AND Private. So it is interchangeable....

The Typ2 2 tag is valid on Private Only and cannot be used on a public land goat.

Anyway that is the way it reads to me and I am waiting on validation from the Warden but thought I would put it out there for some discussion as well.

Thanks!

What is the area? A type 1 tag should be good for the whole unit. Usually a type 2 tag is for a later season date or in a limited part of the area.

If you don't want to tell the area, just download the regulations and read the restrictions on that particular hunt.

I think it depends on what unit you are looking at type 2 113 does not state private land only. It is a way to regulate units. The dates for a type 2 113 start on a later date. I do agree a type 1 should be unit wide in that unit.

The Type 1 should be good on private land too. I believe the rancher is confused because Type 2 says private land only.

Yep, Type 1 unit wide (public and private), Type 2 only on private. They would have stated that Type 1 was limited to public only if that were the case.

Your interpretation is correct. Many units are not issued Type 2 licenses, they are used by the department to micromanage different parts of units, hunter density, etc. Your 23-1 tag can be used to kill a pronghorn on private, if you can get access.
