I drew an unexpected Elk tag in NM. I see that I can pay a nominal fee and withdraw my WY antelope application. Will I still be able to get a preference point and if so, will it require a new application in July? The info on the website isn't clear and though I could look in the regulation book, I'll reach out to the experts here first.

First, leave your applications submitted, go on line and change your app to a tag you won't draw. This is what my wife and I have done, but we are a party app (two people). We applied for 60-1 which should not have two random tags in the Special draw. A tiny bit of risk there of drawing. Another one would be 58-1 due to the very high demand and only 30 tags this year. If you have near max points do not do this.
Second, and the most sure way to insure you don't draw, go on-line and withdraw your current antelope application. Then in July buy a preference point.
