Did my weekly full pack hike this morning. Weather and temps were great this morning and made good time.

Just did a trail run outside of Alburquerque this week that gave me an appreciation for what the Elkhorn 50K race I'm planning on running is going to be like. An up and down 12.8 miler with 3,800' of vertical and topped out over 9,000' on a VERY technical trail. I barely managed to get my pace down under 15:00 per mile and I worked pretty hard at it. Much harder than a 9:15 pace run on flat easy ground. Coming down my splits were still up in the high 12:00 pace but I didn't fall at all so that was a big achievement for me. I stumbled pretty good a few times but never hit the ground.

You for sure get a feel for what kind of shape you are actually in when you start climbing 500+' per mile at elevation on a technical trail.

Npaden, you are an animal.

That was my workout this morning. Didn't run the whole thing straight but pushed the distance up to closer to the 8 mile mark. That is my goal for the end of the summer, 8 miles straight, with warm up and cool down before and after so closer to 9 total.

Ended the week with 38.9 miles and a personal record for elevation gain in a week with 5,040' for the week. (It helps with 3,800' in one run!).

Did some more cross training working on hooking up electricity to a water well and getting everything plumbed up. Lots of cussing over rusted up galvanized steel and brass pipe fittings and some broken off pipes. Tried to figure out why my back was hurting me then realized it was from standing sideways in trenches cleaning them out with a sharpshooter shovel.

Did back and biceps this morning. I have a bike lined up for the summer, so I will be adding 15 miles a week minimum just traveling back and forth to work. I am planning to continue just as much cardio and lifting throughout the summer to be in as good of shape as possible for elk season. I REALLY want to draw the same elk tag that I had last year!

Finished laying the floor in my basement gym. The basement remodel is almost done.
I did go to the garage and run 10 miles in 99 mins. Was tougher than normal as the humidity levels were 98%. :-(

I dislocated my right hip a while back and its just been a discomforting pain ever since so I finally went in to have it checked out. A shot in the hip joint and 3 weeks later of specific exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joint and I'm feeling just about normal. Wish I would have went in months ago. Guess I might be a little stubborn like my wife says. Been doing daily upper body weights now and upper legs.
