Well I made it through my GoRuck event. Barely. My peraformis? Muscles started killing me about 1.5 miles in. We did 11.7 miles. I have blisters and stone bruises. I'm limping around the house today. I have to figure out how to get these butt muscles working better. Anyway it was a great event and I didn't quit. I was the last guy across the finish line but I got across.
But you finished that the part that matters most better then a lot of people out there

I decided my eating habits were not bad, but could be better. In the last month I've lost 14 pounds due to my new eating habits I've developed. I didn't realize I had 14 pounds to lose??!!?? LOL.

Hope everyone is having a great summer, and keep after it!

Help needed

I started a life style change a couple weeks ago after failing many times before, first week was just eating habits changes and am still going strong. Then week 2 I added walking 45 mins + a night went well and started to form the habit of exercising. Monday was the start of week 3 and I started a strength training program in the gym, went thru all my exercises on Sunday to check form and weight amounts trying to prevent "overdoing" it like I've done in the past. Monday's workout went well I could feel it but didn't think I had overdone it, still hit my walk after work and really felt good and encouraged.

So the issue starts Monday night wake up with elbow and a knee joint so stiff I couldn't straighten them, not muscle pain more like ligament or tendon issue. Kept myself moving yesterday gently moving but moving and as the day went on things loosened up some, only walked about 20 mins as that's when I hit a hill and didn't want to set myself back further. Felt better before bed and was planning on skipping the weight routine this morning and just stretching and treadmill at the gym, however the joints were even tighter this morning and now really hurt. I skipped the gym and stretched at home.
So any tips ideas suggestions about getting past this and being able to continue the this new lifestyle?

Hard to describe the issue pain wise but have been here before when fighting wild land fires many years ago, wore heeled boots both on and off work then put on running shoes to jog with the hotshot crew and stretched my leg tendons so bad I couldn't walk for a couple days. I'm not 20 anymore and want to do this without permanently hurting myself.

Thanks for the help and advice

Hit the road for the first time this spring last night. Man, am I out of shape, unless round counts as a shape!

Did 3.1 miles in less than 35 mins, which isn't too bad considering I live at roughly 7,200 ft elevation. I started my diet last weekend and already down 4 lbs.

Looking forward to keeping up with things and seeing where I end up this fall. First big hunt is less than 90 days away with a NR Nevada antelope tag in my pocket.

Nv-hunter: I swear by a foam roller and BCAA’s. I dont push supplements but BCAA’s and protein are 2 I wouldnt be without. Start out foam rolling 3x / day and see how it goes from there. Also try dynamic stretching before exercising rather than static, then afterwards get your static stretching and foam rolling in. Often you can find protein powders with bcaas. Make sure you’re keeping your protein intake high enough or you’ll be sore everywhere, .8g-1g per lb of bodyweight will suffice for a non-bodybuilder.

Thanks for the reply, im doing the wilderness athlete 28 day challenge. Started it on minday i know it has bcaa in it but not sure how much. Been eating lots of protein mostly elk fish and eggs so ill check protein levels too. I had found a beginner level work out program online at muscle and fittness to start with. Trying not to make too big of changes too fast and do things that i can do long term.
This injury stinks as i was meeting those short term goals and now im not able to work out.

Been doing Jim Stoppani’s Giants workouts in my own form over the last week. Workouts consist of 4 workouts per muscle group performed consecutively without rest. Start with 2 multi-joint moves at heavy weight then finish with 2 isolation moves with lighter weight and higher reps. Rest 1-3 mins before moving to the next muscle group. Currently doing chest, back, shoulders, triceps, biceps and abs, takes 35 mins-ish and do it every other day. Will throw legs in after Saturdays race...didnt want to run 13 miles in the mud on sore legs.

Did the 4 mile trail again today. My first mile was my best at about 10:04 then I fell off from there to about a 12 min pace. I?ve also been doing resistance band workouts for my rotator. I strained my rotator and it?s been a long road to get pain free when shooting my bow. I?m still not 100% but the bands are working wonders. Got a little less than 3 months til Colorado. I?d like to get to a sub 10 min pace before I go.

2019 Spartan Ohio Beast is in the books. 13 miles, 30 obstacles and the muddiest course to date, miles of knee-deep mud, muck, swamps & just plain greasy slop. Actually had to empty my shoes of sand, gravel and mud several times and my compression socks are garbage. Loved every minute of it too! Soooo proud of my 7yr old daughter who also did a 1 mile kids race!!!
