Well guys i'm looking for ideas thoughts on what to do in 2022! Hell that even rhymed :) Anywho, in 2021 i got an elk in WY with the bow and a nice 9pt whitetail in Missouri. Don't really have anything planned for this upcoming year but i'm really in the mood to start looking forward to something and i'm open to ideas! I am a diy guy that doesn't mind walking in and putting in the time, however i currently have no points that would do me any good yet so it would have to be an over the counter hunt. Kind of leaning towards a Montana deer hunt and scout for a future elk hunt but open to any ideas that you guys are willing to send my way, either thru this post or pm. Not looking to steal anyones honey hole, but a hey you could get this over the counter is what im hoping to hear. Thanks! Luke

PA sells OTC archery and rifle deer tags.

Go to gamelands #57 after it snows and track you up a big buck.

Truth be told, I'm not steering you in the wrong direction. There are in fact big bucks on that game lands if your up for the challenge.

This is the terrain I always hunted in. I never did catch up to a big buck there but they were there....I miss hunting it.

Also, I'm not sure if they still have a concurrent bear season during bucks season still there, but if they do, 100% for sure get the bear tag too...

Anything OTC out west is going to be a crowded challenge or the tag will be in an area with little to no public access. A guy can still have fun trying though if you are looking for a challenge. I'm sure you are aware of Colorado OTC elk. It is high pressure but guys get it done every year. Wyoming has very easy to draw antelope tags in the NE part of the state- 99% private land but guys pull it off yearly. Nebraska has OTC deer tags but keep in mind, Nebraska as a whole is the third lowest % of public land. 97% private so access is a major issue even for residents.

Have you considered hunting Coues deer? I have done a little research- sounds like a really fun hunt in unique country.

Blacktails and Roosevelts are mostly OTC or fairly easy to draw in Washington and Oregon...........
But its a coastal type hunt, wet, steep, wet, thick, wet, dense, wet, foggy, wet adventure. for most its a acquired taste....

I'm planning to hunt w my nephew in Indiana next year. He's got access to 2 farms and told me to come up for opening day.

Otherwise gonna keep playing the antelope game and maybe cow or "any" elk. No idea where to go for cow elk.

Check out New Mexico for late season cow hunt. You have to buy landowner vocher and then hunting license but is good hunt to fill the freezer.
