What's your ideal 2016 look like?

This fall for us looks like it will shape up as follows:

May thru early June: Spring chinook fishing near home.

Summer: My daughter's summer league softball. Camping locally with the kids. Lots of projects at home.

August thru October: Fall chinook salmon fishing in the nearby local rivers and bays. Black bear hunting on our place, they were thick last year with the dry fall.

Late September: My wife has a Wyoming elk tag and she will crossbow hunt it. I should draw an antelope tag and in the two weeks running around for her hunt I hope to find something special.

October: Blacktail deer hunting on our ranch.

November: Colorado mule deer, my wife should draw a 3rd season tag and I should draw a 4th season tag on the same unit.

December: Local muzzleloader elk hunting. Also, cow elk tags for my daughter and son.

Things will get complicated if a big tag comes through, but we will figure it out. We have a pile of points for various tags and something should drop soon.

I would be happy with any size bull elk. Public land hunt, plenty of hard work and a good story to go with it.

My year will be here in Colorado.

Archery elk otc with 73 year old father. Hopefully a Archery buck tag comes through for me if not maybe a 4th season tag, For sure a muzzy buck tag will come through for either the wife or I who ever does not draw a buck tag. Wife should draw a 1st rifle bull tag and going after here 2nd elk. Brother has a shot at drawing a muzzy bull tag. Leftover cow tags to fill in the meat gaps 2nd - 4th. Scouting for Muzzy deer for wife and hopefully Archery deer for me will fill in the late summer.

Hopefully the father and I can get a couple left over 3rd or 4th - 44 cow elk tags to hunt it and scout it to see if he wants to hunt it for next year deer.

Good luck in the draws

This year has already started out great. I scouted a new area for antelope here in SW Colorado. Has enough promise that I will be blowing all my 14 points for the tag. If successful for my elk draw tag, I'll be hunting a cow during M/L season here. If not, I'll probably buy an otc bull tag for 2nd or 3rd season. Applied for a Desert Sheep tag here, but it's a crap shoot as most of you know. If I don't draw, my hunting will be over for the year as I will be having a shoulder replacement in early November. If I get lucky, then the surgery will be a few weeks later.

Good luck to everyone in 2016!

Really wont know for sure until all the draws are completed.

But, for sure:

Kodiak fishing trip in late July with a good friend.

Wyoming: 3 elk tags, 2 buck pronghorn tags, 2 turkey tags, 2 buck deer tags, bear tag...the usual in WY.

Montana: deer only this year, even though I get a half priced NR tag. Just cant agree with Montanas crap management on elk, so for the first time since 1980 will not have a MT elk tag.

Hopefully something else in the draws in NV, CO, AZ, UT, WY, MT...I have lots of points in all those states, so you never know.

I can come up with lots of dream hunt ideas, but I think ideal would be my wife, my two kids, and I each filling at least one tag this year, with mine preferably being a bull elk. Four animals would be enough to fill the freezer and have some left over to give to a few folks at church who would appreciate an extra 10 pounds of burger.

Ideal season at this point, would be just getting enough time off to go!

Matt, you and I have the same aspirations and we will get it done in Colorado!

CC, good luck with the shoulder surgery Hopefully you'll fill all your tags before! Otherwise for me it will probably be the norm, hopefully downing a few hogs here in Florida and a respectable buck and/or doe in Ohio to fill the freezer.

Came up empty in New Mexico again. I just want to draw something somewhere and have my body in good enough health to have a positive hunt of some kind. Just found out I'll be a grandfather this December, but my body has already felt like one the last 2 1/2 years!
