What Pistols Do You All Carry?

It really depends on what I am doing and or where I am going.

My CC pistol is a S&W .40 Shield, and depending on what I am doing I'll swap it out with a Beretta M96 in .40 S&W or a Ruger Security Six in .357 mag. I find the S&W Shield very compact and very manageable for shooting at the distances that you would encounter where it was needed

My general hunting packing pistol is a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag. I will swap it out at times with a Ruger GP 100 in .357mag.

I looked at the .357 Sig before I purchased my first .40 S&W but due to availability of factory ammo and even finding it at times I went with the .40 even if I do reload 99% of the rounds that I shoot. But I do like to be able to walk into a store and pick up a box or two if they are on sale.

I carry a 1911-22 "Bitch gun" when I do feel the need to carry a pistol. I always have an extra mag too, both mags are full of CCI Stingers.

Its VERY reliable, light, and accurate, doesn't rust easily and you could make somebody a bitch with it in a hurry if need be...lol

If I had to choose a big caliber I would choose my Glock 19 in 9mm. Lot of firepower in that gun and it is very accurate and very reliable. I prefer not to carrry this though because it is big and heavy fully loaded and if I see an armadillo or something to shoot I dont like blowing my eardrums out.

My wife has a SIG P365 9mm. It jams constantly with my cast reloads, and to me that is intolerable. It does shoot factory shells "Pretty reliably" which is also intolerable to me.

It is rare that I carry concealed but I always do while I am on the lake because there are a lot of drunks acting a fool at the boat ramp. They typically dont bother me when I dont engage in conversation and they see I have a gun on my side.

Whatever a person chooses they better be able to shoot accurately with it and it better not jam, EVER.

Still a fan of a Glock 20 (10mm auto) for general carry: hiking, sidearm while hunting, etc.

I also own a 44-mag Redhawk and love that as a general pistol. But honestly it's just too massive to justify carrying if I'm not in grizzly country. Actually the reason I got it is for hunting trips where I may be going out sunrise/sunset with a rifle, but wanting to take a walk during the day without lugging as much gear around. I regularly bump deer and other game while doing this and this is just a nice option to keep in a chest holster while carrying very little else.

Finally, I picked up the Ruger MKIV 22/45 Lite last year. I haven't carried it yet because I got it in December, but my plan is to carry it while deer/elk hunting to take grouse that I bump. That happens a lot in places where I go and I'm not worried about noise - it's such a busy area that there are gunshots all day. I put a red dot on it and I've been working on my accuracy. I think I'm pretty good out to about 25 yards and I'm looking forward to adding some game birds to hunt dinners this season.

CC: LCP .380 carry as its easy to conceal; I don't wear bulky clothes and don't have any fluff to help hid anything bigger. Curse I know... ;)
Hunting: Glock SF 10mm

As of this writing I know I have shot Beretta, Sig, Walther, S&W, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Ruger and a few others I am sure I am forgetting. For this gun I am definetly leaning towards a Sig as I have always had a soft spot for them and Beretta. Compact is probably what I am looking at frame wise, so any specific reports on performance there would be great.

SIG P229 all day, every day. .40 CAL
------------------------------------------------------------
Two more SIG P226s for those times I want 12+1 - again in .40 CAL
------------------------------------------------------------
.40 CAL isn't sexy anymore, which is fantastic because I can get ammo now. SIG is indestructible and the de-cocker is bullet-proof (literally and figuratively).
I love the .40 S&W !

.40 S&W Shield - It is very reliable, it fits my hand well, is easy to conceal, and is very accurate for a gun that small. I can comfortably place a clip full of rounds quickly in a 10" circle at 60'. That is plenty good enough for that guns intended purpose and meets qualifying accuracy for ccw instructor training. I have shot 1000+ rounds through mine with various factory loads and have never had a jam. I know it will work if I ever need it. I have a couple LE friends carrying the same gun for the same reason.

I have never fired a Sig, but hear nothing but good about them. I have many thousands of rounds of .40mm thru Smith and Wessons, love the caliber.
My CCW is a Ruger LCR in .357 but almost always loaded with .38 specials.
My bear carry is a Magna-ported Colt Delta Elite 10mm.

I carried a Colt Python on the job until the dept. shifted to Glock .40 cal. I could write my name on the head of a target with the Python, but it sure wasn't a CCW. I find my own Glock .40 to be too big, the excellent Kimber .380 too small, and the SIG P365 just right. I probably have a couple hundred rounds through the SIG, both FMJ and "combat" ammo with 100% reliability. I can carry it with the IWB holster, and it is comfortable, concealable, and accessible.

Do you have a recommendation on a CCW holster for your weapon?
