I'll nerd out here. While there have been 32 "lost" that doesn't mean they don't know where they went. These incidents, called Broken Arrows, include nukes that went down in flight (nukes on airplanes, not missiles) or damaged. Many of the broken arrows happened during flight when aircraft crashed or submarines sunk etc. I believe there are around 6 nukes the USA has actually lost that can't be accounted for.
How do you lose even one that can't be accounted for?I'll nerd out here. While there have been 32 "lost" that doesn't mean they don't know where they went. If I remember right I have a 500 lb Mk-82 bomb off of a A-10 that crashed south of I-70 a number of years ago. The Air Force searched for a couple of years for it. They found one of them but not the second. They even brought in divers to check out the lakes in the areas where the plane crashed. They came up with a lot of the 30mm depleted uranium rounds for the cannon but that second bomb is still up in the hills somewhere. Officially it is unaccounted for since they don't believe that it blew up but they just can't find it.How do you lose even one that can't be accounted for?
That's not true they have only lost 6 nuclear warheads. Which is still pretty bad.
that are known about . it would not surprise me to discover it has been thousands. That's not true they have only lost 6 nuclear warheads. Which is still pretty bad.
There is an organization that tracks nuclear weapons and they believe there are thousands, mostly from when the Soviet union collapsed.that are known about . it would not surprise me to discover it has been thousands.
