Hey any of you revolver enthusiasts, which SA revolver do you like best? I have been looking at the Ruger Vaquero and others such as the Taylor Arms Co, Uberti, Cimarron, etc. Just wanting one for shooting and the fun factor, no competitions or anything.

Any others I missed and which do you like best out of the lower $ end options?

I am a fan of the Ruger SA revolvers since the mid 70's. I have a Blackhawk in 45 Lc with a very low serial number and a Blackhawk in 41 mag. I did have a .44 mag also but someone else wanted it more than I did.

As far as I am concerned you can not go wrong with one of them. They are bullet proof to say the least.

I am a Cowboy Action shooter and have shot SA's in competition for 20 years. The most reliable by far is the Ruger. I've shot Colts, Taylors & Cimarrons (both are made by Uberti), so I have experience with just about all of them. I shoot about 1000 rounds per month in practice and competition. For the last 8 years, I have shot only the New Model Stainless Vaqueros in .45 Colt caliber. I have never had anything break or any malfunction. You can't go wrong with Rugers and they stand behind their product.

I have two SA rugers, a super blackhawk hunter 44 mag, and a second year production single six. You can spend more, but you won?t get more for your money than with a Ruger

I have 4 of the new model Vaqueros. I shoot 2 in a match. I bought the second set as backup. When I travel to a big match ( lots of them out of state), I want to have backups for all my guns in case of breakage. Never needed the second set in 8 years.

I'm also a Ruger fan. I have a couple Single Six 22's. The initial one I got in high school is beat to death but still works. I used to put almost a brick of shells through it a week (some went through the rifle too). The back sight broke so I took off the front sight and shot it instinctual for a while. Then it got a scope later. I sometimes packed it that way coon hunting behind dogs. Later I got a 6.5" stainless Single Six.

As a wedding gift I got a 6.5" stainless Blackhawk Convertible in 357/9mm. It is a great shooting gun too but I keep it a bit nicer. I've had a 3 Blackhawk or Vaquero 44's too over the years. Never had trouble with any of them except the sight on the single six I beat up for years.

Here is another vote for Ruger SAs. I used to have a Super Blackhawk and a Super Single Six. I kick myself for getting rid of them. If I were to buy another Super Blackhawk, it would likely be one with a barrel shorter than 7.5 inches. I am tall, but I needed a shoulder holster to carry the long barreled revolver.

This shoot was several years ago in Arizona and was the National Championships. If I remember correctly I'd just screwed up a stage and was a little pissed off. It cost me a top ten finish. Not a happy camper at that moment!
