I wouldn't be able to sleep anymore if I was the son in the first story...
All a person can do is pray for them.

there are no accidents. only stupid people.

this is natures way of culling the herd.

my condolences to the son for being put in this position by his stupid father.

Had a buddy in MO fall out of his treestand while bow hunting this year. Broken bones and a concussion, but could have been a lot worse. Made me think about a few short cuts I do while out and about. Thanks for bringing safety up guys, can get overlooked from time to time

Damn dude. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Fairly callous comments by you and dirtclod, on a thread where some people lost their lives, good people that have family and friends that care about them.

Unnecessary. Show some respect.

that WAS much more respect then I have.

anyone with a brain knows not to point barrel of gun at ones self. doubly so when handing it to another . even more so again when it is loaded , and YOU KNOW IT IS LOADED!

I stand by my statements!

I hope the sons mother handed down enough genes to offset those given to him by his dad.

if not ,who knows how many hunters are at risk.

It must be tough being perfect.

We've all done a few dumb things, some of us get away with it, others do not. These didn't. Best to learn and move on- and not to be a prick about it.

Had no intention in starting a debate- I think it's important to share when things like this happen so we all keep safety at the front of our minds.

First I'm not happy or glad it happen very sad, second I will be the first to tell you that I have Fucked up in life BUT not when it has to do with weapons. He was 58 years old and should have known better not to hand down his rifle loaded, from education like a hunter safety course and oh COMMON SENSE!!!! If the hunter safety course in his state taught him that than maybe he should've used common sense or move to a different state to actually learn it the right way. Again I'm sorry it happened and don't wish it upon anyone but there is a thing called COMMON SENSE!!!!!! Even his son being 37 fucking years old should have known that and asked his dad if it's unloaded before having him lower it to him. You know it's just like people who drink and drive or don't wear seat belts and end up dying in a wreck, well it's called population control, don't be Fucking stupid and again USE COMMON SENSE and don't do it. This wasn't a accident because it could have been prevented, it's called STUPIDITY AND A LACK OF OH AGAIN COMMON SENSE!!!!!
