We finally have our new puppy home....birds Beware! He is pretty amazing...already retrieving and will sit and stay at 8 weeks old. Now if we can just get him to sleep at night...lol.

Great looking dog. My lab is 5 now and I can't get him to stop walking in circles when he's in the house. He'll get in his bed when I tell him too but it just doesn't seem right when the other two rascals (girlfriends dogs) get to do whatever they want. Have fun with him.

If somebody doesn't get all google eyed over a Lab puppy, well they just ain't right!!
I agree 100% sheephunter.

That a great looking pup Hilltop! That's great that he is already obeying commands at such a young age.

And I think I already told you CC, but it bears repeating, that is a great looking pup you have as well. That name is a mouth full lol.

The agreement with the breeder says I have to use their kennel name (Eichhorn) in the AKC registration. The name of our place is Wing Music Ranch (because of all the waterfowl on our pond, my wife says wing noise when they fly over) and her name we call her is Jenny. AKC registered names tend to be pretty long and a little tedious. I had a Springer Spaniel whose registered name was Sir Tuck of St. Keverne....we called him Tuck.

Good looking pups. That is really good to stay at that young age. Sounds like a lot of fun. My pup is 12 and won't stay. Heel, sit, shake, find, bow, circle, laydown, stand, jump, speak, fetch, no problem. Stay, not a chance.

I find that hand signals are the key with the young pups. They seem to understand the visual faster than they do word commands. I start with sit and then give him the traffic cop hand extended- as if your blocking his way. I back up just inches at a time and then follow quickly with the come command which is my hand straight down with palm towards him. When he responds he gets a lot of praise and really make a big deal out of it. Each time I back up a few more inches. We are at about 6 feet now in a little over 24 hours.

Here is a pic of my chocolate pointing lab that I brought home in December. We are making great progress as well. Looking forward to hunting with her this fall!

That picture with your son is priceless! Incorporating hand signals with commands is beneficial on many levels. They seem to learn them faster, and the hand signals will come in really handy in the blind when hunting. By the way, Congrats on the new pup.

Been pretty hot...90's and the puppy loves the water! Bought this small kids pool for her until she gets big enough and learns to swim in the big pond. When we got her she weight 16# (at 8 weeks) , now 28# (at 11 weeks).Jenny in pool.jpg
