I have done 5 moose trips to Ontario for a lot less than 4K. It was unguided archery. Scored on a 55" bull and a 45" bull another year we should have killed a 45" bull as well. My buddy lost his composure and the last I seen of that bull it was running at full speed for Santa's work shop on the north pole...haha

None of us are guaranteed another day on this earth. Go to the bank, take out a loan and book a hunt in Canada or Alaska. Then while you pay off your monthly loan you can look at your sheep and moose on the wall.

People finance +$40,000 trucks all the time, might as well spend that money on something that really matters. Stone sheep and Yukon moose!

Dark, I would not go into debt for a hunt that being said I don't have a problem spending if you have it to spend. Now a stone sheep hunt 40,000+ now is a tough pill to swallow. I do believe they are by far the best looking sheep in North America !

I agree with sneakypete, I would not , and did not ever go into debt to go on a hunt.
IMHO , hunts should be taken with discretionary income only.

The word debt gets thrown around in different ways. I think a pile of us use credit cards on our hunts- technically a form of debt. If you can financially swing the hunt, do it. When I'm old in a rocking chair someday I won't be regretting the hunts I took but rather the ones I never made happen.

Wow, 35 days; you definitely earned that ram! I wouldn't hesitate to spend that money on such an epic hunt! Congrats again to you and your wife on an awesome ram. I'm sure that's one of the most memorable hunts of your life.

Sorry not trying to hijack the thread. Sheep just make me crazy. I've got to hunt a Dall Ram soon or I might die.

It was a once in a lifetime tag California Bighorn in oregon, to top that off my wife was pregnant.

I highly recommend sheep hunting there is nothing like it.

Hilltop hit the nail on the head. If its a hunt you want to do, make it happen. The original poster said he was almost 43. Well my Dad kicked the bucket when he was about that age. He always wanted to kill a big Midwestern whitetail, but just kept putting off going. He regretted not making that hunt big time.

I agree, if you have the money, do it. Or if you can save the money, do it. I personally wouldn't go thousands into debt for any hunt though. It would be a bigger regret to kick the bucket and leave my family with the debt! They probably wouldn't appreciate the mount as much as they pay off my debt...

I am not going to go 1000's of dollars into debt to go on a hunt but I will make it happen. One way or another. Saving $100 a month isn't really that hard for me to do. It may take a few years but I will get it done.

43 is not 100! I'm sure life will give you a few opportunities to make your dreams come true! I'm 32 and totally new to hunting, but I really hope to become a professional!
