Im glad now I didnt draw anything this year. General tags I can have any year dont taste all that bad when it comes down to it in a situation like this and I have some ideas where I can go closer to home if I can only go for a day or 2.

Getting out for just a day can be really therapeutic when times are tough.

Thanks everyone! Giving up the hunt is not so hard but I could REALLY use that week or 2 in the mountains and I just cant see it happening at this point. On the bright side I found 4 bucks at work tonight and smokepole season opens Saturday! Taking binos and spotter tomorrow, they might not get much work out of me. HAHA!!!

Sorry for your loss MM. I agree with the others even a day or two in the woods can be therapeutic. Hope you get out some and good luck with the smoke pole

Found 9 or 10 bucks today but none were the bucks Im looking for. I did recognize a couple from the group I saw this summer a few times with 2 decent 4x4s in it so Im hoping the other bucks are still around. Best today was a 4x3 and a 3x3 that is somewhat heavy. Going early tomorrow to look for them at first light! Was at work 12 hours today but I only put 8 on my time card and I have a feeling tomorrow will be even less:)

Talk about poor genetics. What a bunch of lopsided forked horns! In the past 2 days I have seen 2 bucks I maybe would of shot and neither was on our place. 1 was on our place day before season and I just found him again today on the neighbors. This 3 point or better reg is not working at all. Its only promoting a bunch of bucks that might never be more then a forker or have very weak points. I even found 1 today in full velvet still. I think I need to cull all of them and get some better bucks. They dont pattern at all either. I see deer in the same places everyday but not the same deer. I could have killed several legal deer but none interested me so I let them go. Having a good time looking at them and Im not worried about punching the tag!

Its just not the same hunting private farm land here as hunting in the mountains or Nevada desert. If I can get away next weekend Im going to head to Idaho instead of hunting the end of the season here.

I hear ya. I have sometimes shot deer in my apple orchard, especially when I get pressed for time and can't get a regular hunt in and want some meat for the winter. Nothing beats hunting camp!

ok guys, im in a little bit of legal trouble and am sickened to death! I shot a bobcat during archery season, and was tickled to death by it, was proud of it! took pics, sent pics, told everyone I knew. well..... turns out bobcats cant be hunted until December, no tag needed, just cant shoot them until December. I did not know this, I should have known this being how ive lived my entire life in the outdoors hunting and fishing. everyone I shared my good fortune with was happy and stoked for me, and they too were all life long avid hunters that didn't know there was a season for them. I go out of my way to abide by the laws laid out for the hunting world. always have! never would I have deliberately do something like that knowing better. but at the same time, I should have know, im not making any excuses, I should have known. when people come hunt elk I expect them to know all the laws and regs around hunting elk. in my ignorance I failed to follow that rule of advice. I take full blame for my wrong doing. when the fish cops showed up I was floored! now I feel like a criminal when I didn't realize I had done anything wrong. have to stand before the judge in two weeks and have know idea what to expect, im a little scared, and feel so stupid and foolish!!

Ivorytip, I think you tell the judge just what you told us and he might show some leniency as long as your past record is not bad. I would expect some kind of a fine for not knowing the law, but I wouldn't think that it would jeopardize future hunting. I think it is fully beneficial if you make it clear that you were in the wrong, just like you said above.

thanks guys, I plan to tdub. the fish cop that came by was a cool guy, he helped me set up my big canvas tent last year and was cool to b.s. with. nice guy. he said not to stress but I am! I have a perfectly clean record, hell ive even called in a few poaching cases during the last few years, am always involved with conservation in the way of donating money and or time. so I hope judge sees this. my biggest concern is my son will be old enough to hunt next year, will break my heart if I wont be able to take him. im gonna plea not guilty and then see if public defender can get me down to doing community service teaching hunters safety or fishing shops for youth or anything?!

Honesty goes a long way in front of some judges that are used to people trying to blame everyone else for their problems. Good luck to you, I don't really understand a rule that puts a time limit on predator control.
