Thinking of getting a new hunting back pack for an upcoming elk hunt, looking for something around 3,500 ci, that I can strap a gun or bow too and have enough room to do a 3-4 day bivy. Any suggestions

When is your hunt? Some of the better packs have build times. What's your budget? Would you consider used? There are so many great packs out there. I bought a Exo 3500 and love it. I've hauled 2 caribou with it and am elk hunting right now. I believe they are out of stock till sometime in October.

My hunts in 26 days. Id like to be around 200 bucks cost wise. I like that new OX by badlands, just not real thrilled with the price. I have a day pack that I use now, however once the load gets over 20lbs its uncomfortable to pack.

For that budget, you may want to look at the cabelas instinct pack or guide pack. Buy the frame only, and get yourself some dry bags for your gear. You can be in this whole setup for about $200.

If your considering a frame pack you can also look at the Kelty Cache Hauler.

$200 might be hard to find a quality pack with 3,500ci. The Eberlestock x2 is at your price point but smaller than you need, although I think you may be able to attach the super spike duffel so that may be an option for you. There is also the Cabelas Alaskan frame packs, I know a lot of guys who love theirs. If you bumped your price point up to around $300 you would have a lot more options, Tenzing, Badlands, Eberlestock, Kuiu Ultra. Also keep an eye on EBay, Craigslist, or forum classifieds for good deals on used packs.

Here is a thread I read through today while doing research on a day pack. It might be helpful. After looking at the top end hunting packs (Kifaru, Kuiu, Mystery Ranch), the guy went to REI and found some good options. The pack he bought was $289. Read post #64 if you want to get to the heart of the matter.

I've been looking at the Kuiu packs. An option for you might be the Ultra 3000 ($320). The advantage being you would have their carbon fiber frame and could use it for a attaching a day pack bag or a larger backpack bag at a later date for a pretty reasonable cost.

I think looking at a company like Kelty, that doesn't specialize in hunting, is a good idea because you will be able to get a comfortable pack that isn't as expensive. I know you could find a good Kelty new for around, or under $200. They will not have the gun scabbard; however, you can buy an add-on scabbard from Eberlestock. I think most hunting packs are heavier, some are waterproof, they offer some hunting application versatility but it will all cost you.

I found an Alps frame cargo hauler for $50, new and unused, if you're interested.
