Muzzle Loader Scope Recommendations

Haven't muzzle loader hunted since Nebraska changed their laws regarding muzzle loader scopes. I found one I wanted yesterday on clearance and couldn't pass up the deal. It is a nickel plated CVA wolf... nothing fancy but I like it. I would like to hear different opinions on what scope to mount. There are no restrictions here in Nebraska and I have no plans to hunt any other states with it so all options are open. What are you guys using and why?

Even tho we can't use optics on our M/L's here in Colorado, I have a little advice on mounts. I have a T/C Pro Hunter that I changed the sight on. I mounted the new sight on a Picatinny Rail base. It allows you a lot of versatility on mounting. My T/C was already drilled and tapped for it and I just used a little Loctite and screwed it on. If I hunt in a state that allows optics, I can have one ready and just set it on the base. Pretty simple.

I have a knight bk92 that has a 2x7 Luepold shotgun scope. I have detachable rings (I believe Luepold as well) so it makes cleaning easier. Seems to always hold zero when scope is taken off/put on.

I use the cabelas 4-14 power muzzleloader scope. It has the bdc reticle for 250 grain sabot with 150 grains of powder. Shoots 6 inch groups at 200 yards. It is mounted on a traditions ultralight.

I use a Nikon Omega in 1.65 x 5 x 36. It's been a good scope to me, especially for the price, but I think they're out of production in favor of the Nikon XR, which (I think) only comes in 3x9. I prefer the lower magnification, but out west the 3x9 might be of some use to you. Not sure how much of the Omega's features and quality made it down to the XR (maybe all, if its the same scope and Nikon had some conflict with TC over use of the name, but that's just me speculating).

I recently installed a VX3 2.5-8X on my TC Omega. I previously used a 1.5-6x scope on that gun. The 1.5-6X worked well for whitetail hunting in Missouri. I'm intending to have a CDS dial or M1 turret installed on the 2.5-8X and make it more suitable for longer range shooting over wheat fields and clover fields.

I have the cabela's muzzle loader scope on my CVA optima. I used it while I lived in Nebraska. I developed a load using the Blackhorn powder. You have to weigh it out as it says right on the package that by volume it isn't the same other powders. These loads where dead on with the scope and I was shooting Hornady bullets and the Harvester sabots. I shot an antelope at 225 with this set up. (I was prone with a bipod) It was a great set up and harvested a lot of deer. I know it's not the most expensive scope but it has worked really well for me over the years.

Leupold VX-3 2.5-8 on my TC Endeavor will get ya out to 150 yds easy enough.
