Wouldn't be the first time. Do you remember Kirt Darner from the 80's? He was all over the outdoor magazines and in the hunting catalogs unil it was found out that most if not all his monster trophy animals were poached or even stolen. Even back then I thought it was strange that all the pictures of him were with mounted animals out in the field.
I'm sure there are more of these tv personalities that are shady.

They're pretty quick to defend themselves at the bottom of the article......No surprise there. But in my experience, where there's smoke, there's fire. Hopefully the DNR has all the evidence and justice will run it's correct course.

I sure do remember Kirt Darner, the self proclaimed trophy mule expert. I also remember him standing in front of an old barn/shed that was covered with huge mule deer. He made himself a fortune all the while being a poacher and wildlife thief. It figures.
Stuff like that happen when big money, greed and ego come into play. IMO

Was Kirt from Wyoming?
No idea where he was from, but he's probably the biggest name out there that has ever been taken down for all the violations he committed and got away with for years!

As far as the comments at the bottom of the OP link, I see they have stated they are innocent of hunting where they shouldn't have been, but they made no comments about not having the proper stamps, etc. Being retired from a LE type of job that I had for over 30 years, I'll reserve any other comments until after adjudication of the cases and see what the final official rulings in court are.

I wouldn't expect them to say otherwise. Have you heard may criminals say they were guilty!

Kirt Darner was born in 1939 in El Centro, California, but spent most of his life in New Mexico before moving to Montrose, Colorado, in 1976. A graduate of Mesa Community.

Marty Stouffer dropped out of the limelight after some trespass and other violations. He wasn't killing any animals, but was still violating a number of laws. He was everywhere on the outdoor wildlife circuit for quite a while.

I also read an article about Marty which said MANY of the animal chase scenes were staged.

Even Ted Nugent got caught poaching in California a few years back. Although I do believe Ted truly didn't know what he was doing was illegal.

MARYSVILLE (AP) — Ted Nugent says he should have been better informed about California game laws after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of deer-baiting.

Nugent, who lives near Waco, Texas, said on his website Wednesday that he takes full responsibility for the hunting incident televised on a February episode of his Outdoor Channel hunting show.

California game wardens watching the show saw Nugent kill an immature buck during the hunt in Northern California. Investigators found that the deer had been eating bait before being killed.

Baiting wildlife is illegal in California.

Nugent pleaded no contest last week to baiting the deer and not having a properly signed hunting tag. A Yuba County Superior Court judge ordered Nugent to pay a $1,750 fine.

None of this surprises me. These are the same people that arrow a deer in the spine or guts, pan away, and then say what a great shot they just made. Ethics take a back seat to profits in the outdoor film industry.

This wasn't his first problem either. He got cited in Alaska too....blamed his producers, just like the California incident. He is not my favorite spokesperson for hunting!

This right here bugs me more than anything. I know that deer is still suffering and they are just chatting away like nothing is wrong. I watched a show the other day where a guy said he heart shot a deer and it ran up over a hill at 250 yards. They tracked it and still found it awake and bedded. He backed out and came back the next day to a deer skeleton. That deer was shot in the morning mind you. Stuff like this isn't what should make it to the outdoor shows. It's not all about the biggest buck everytime

I think Nugent doesn't care, he's one of those loudmouth people who think the law doen't apply to him.
