I did not draw my Montana Elk/Deer Combo tags...
They have never sold out in the past. I can't wait to see the draw results/stats. :(

Results aren't official yet. I've heard numbers from people I trust and if you applied for the big game combo you will draw.

Just talked to a woman at Montana G&F that results are sporadic and are not final, but will be official by EOB Thursday.
I just can't see mine changing though.... I hope the G&F gal and you are correct Shooter. (fingers crossed)

Did you just put in for a general elk/deer tag, or apply for a limited district? I have friends hoping to come archery hunting in the fall here and I have not heard if they have heard anything, but where we hunt is not a special permit area, most were saying there would be left over tags, if they sold out all deer/elk combo's, this would be surprising to me.

We were successful on the General deer combo. I took it for granted, good thing we didn't wait for the leftovers.

Be careful, my son-in-law was listed as successful on his big game combo tag and today it says he was not. With a lot of guys saying they didn't get their combo I think the site is just messed up.

I called MT FWP and they said final results will not be posted until Friday. No matter what you saw on the site so far this week, you should probably check back then.

Its nice being guaranteed a MT NR deer and elk tag every year...for half price. My deer combo tag for 2017 showed up a couple weeks ago.

Too bad the elk hunting sucks so bad, its not even worth the additional $200 it would have cost me to add elk to the deer combo.

I think what is going on is that fwp first makes the initial draw for general tags for NR, then, those that drew on initial drawing who want only to hunt in a specific hunting district are put into that draw, and those that are unsuccessful and do not wish to have a general elk/deer combo, elk combo or deer combo are allowed to not accept the permit, thus freeing up that general tag for someone who was not successful the first drawing....if that makes sense.

Ok, riddle me this,
I was successful for the elk permit, unsuccessful for the elk combo.

Well one things for sure, they are successful in confusing me.

Elk hunting sucks bad in Montana? I grew up hunting elk in Montana, tagged out each year since I was 15.. Sucks? Really?

I hear you.....I thought they would draw for the general tags first and then draw for hunting districts that require a permit, that is in fact what I was told a few years back when I asked office where I live how process worked, but they are at times not up to latest way Helena does things it seems. So, I would ask them why the hell they drew the district first, when you did not receive a general tag .....seems like they are doing it ass backwards to me.

Montana really needs to fix it's 2 part system, at least for non-residents...

Non-res should be able to only apply for the special tag/permit without having to draw the general.

I think they may have allowed a refund now at a cost though?

none the less they should allow nonres to apply for the special tag/permit without having to draw the general first/having to pay up to refund the general.
