Congratulations! The bear numbers are really high in the southern UP the last couple of years of years with some really big bores running around. Not sure what the eastern UP is looking like but I am guessing your going to have a lot of fun.

Thank you!
I was originally planning to hunt closer to Iron Mountain where I was born. But the guy we're booked with is very successful and extremely passionate about what he does so made the decision to go this route a few years ago.

I was born in Hermansville, 25 miles east of Iron Mountain. Southern Menomenee county is full of bears, last week we video taped a nice one rubbing it's back on my apple tree about 30 yards off my back deck.

My grandmother was born in Hermansville also.
They had a cabin and 80 acres in Hardwood since the 50s. My cousins have it now but they don't hunt so I ruled that out.

Nothing super special but a big deal for me.
We moved to Colorado when I was 16 and rarely get to go back to where I'm from.
But after 11 years of applying my son and I drew the Newberry 1st season for 2024.
I'm 56 now and have never harvested an animal in the U.P.
We will be using a guide that we also fished with this last year.
My dad and I have a bunch of points for MI bear. Years ago maybe 15, a friend of his said he or an uncle etc... had land we could hunt for bear, we put in with 0 points and out of like 15 guys, no one drew. I think none of us probably had points. Was super excited at the time. That friend doesn't have the land anymore, so probably need to find an outfitter.
Would like to bowhunt them I think. Fishing sounds great too.
Have the points, just need the plan.

I'm booked with yooperoutdoors. He raised his rates a lot this year but we're already committed. But watching him for years I think he's likely the best up there.
Includes lodging meals and use of a boat for fishing in the mornings.
I fished with him last year and he really delivers.
He's got a website and lots of info on his fb page.

Thanks, and good luck!
hopefully in the next few years for me...and my pops.
Fishing would be nice bonus.
I know a few guys have told me don't shoot the first bear you see! unless you KNOW it's a big boy, ie., a bigger one will probably come in, but so many first timers get so excited to shoot the first bear they see. Of course though, good luck and take whatever you'd be happy with. Post some pics later on hopefully.
