I'm thinking he was concentrating on the antlers, and not on a spot. Bummer.Couldn't tell the distance he was shooting, but with that high crosswind he probably shouldn't have even attempted it. Missing the vitals that far was either caused by the high wind or a deflection off the brush, neither of which is good.
That makes the most sense. It would take a huge wind gust and pulling the shot bad to get it into the antler. That angle the arrow went in would be from laying down looking at him imoIf you look at the weird angle the arrow is sticking in the rack (nearly straight up when the buck gets up), the buck was probably sleeping with his rack leaned over covering its vitals. He probably thought he could sneak an arrow in. That's my best guess anyways.
Good call. I guess an arrow in the antler is better than an arrow in the jaw.If you look at the weird angle the arrow is sticking in the rack (nearly straight up when the buck gets up), the buck was probably sleeping with his rack leaned over covering its vitals. He probably thought he could sneak an arrow in. That's my best guess anyways.
See, you can tell by the ballistic gel results, that the arrow tumbled in flight, resulting in a direct hit to the antler.Or we could use the JFK theory of how the arrow made a 90° turn in mid flight….lol
Too bad he wasn't using a lumenock. He could keep an eye on that thing…ha ha.Should be easy to find him again with that arrow sticking up. lol
Where did the bullet go into the sheep? Did that shot kill it? That would be a neat mount! I have seen a few deer go down flat and then get up and get away that I think were hit in a horn.Too bad he wasn't using a lumenock. He could keep an eye on that thing…ha ha.
I killed a sheep once and the bullet was sticking in the off side horn. I had it mounted that way.
I seem to recall it was a quartering away shot, it's been like 20 years ago.Where did the bullet go into the sheep? Did that shot kill it? That would be a neat mount! I have seen a few deer go down flat and then get up and get away that I think were hit in a horn.
I forgot you have killed so many different sheep its hard to remember them allI seem to recall it was a quartering away shot, it's been like 20 years ago.
The first big game animal I ever shot at was a caribou. I was 10 years old shooting over my dad's back as he was trying to lie still and not breathe..lol. One of those bullets went through an antler.
