Is MT Crazy?

Something that has been bothering me about bow hunting in Mt, is the electronics attached to a bow being illigal.
How can lighted knocks (which seem to assist in being able to see where your arrow struck an animal), or the Leupold Vendetta (which seems to give the hunter a better chance of making a clean kill) be illigal? Anyone have these answers for me or is it just the way it is?

Unfortunately it is just the way it is. You are not the first to ask that question to yourself and you wont be the last. I have talked to a couple of wardens about that and they dont understand it either. I wish I could give you a better answer but if the state says you cant use it you cant.

That's definately an unnecessary law that only burdens hunters.

Its the same in Idaho. Bow hunting and muzzle loader seasons are to be kept as traditional as reasonable to allow a more sporting hunt and to keep it to the roots of traditional hunting.

Both states allow for a much more modern set of rules and equipment with the rifle or anyweapon seasons.

so the Lumanock is illeagal in MT? didnt know that, guess I should study the regs a little better. I dont use them anyway but I had thought about tryin them , guess i wont

Use can use lighted nocks in a "any weapon" hunting season only.

You should get involved with the Montana Bowhunters Ass. You will get to here both sides of the issue and decide from there.

Yup, same thing in Colorado. Very frustrating because like you said, it can help recover the animal when you see where it hits, but, its also trying to keep it as traditional as possible I think.

You also can't put an animal in P&Y if you have used a lighted nock if your state does allow it.

Yep..record book entries are full of restrictions to allow a hunter in.

P&Y aside, (never been about that) A bow that shoots 350 FPS and has one pin to 40 yards is acceptable, something that takes away a major risk for hit and lost animals is illegal. something else that assists with knowing where you hit an animal is also illegal. Seems crazy to me!

Forgive me for wanting to make an ethical kill, I am not using a branch and senew as you must be, but wish to give myself the best chance while being ethical to the animal.

We never questioned your ethics... We all have just as many gadgets as our bows can hold, me included. Just not anything electronic is all.

I guess there are too ways to look at it.

1) The latest technology makes an ethical kill easier to do.

2) Archery hunting is not supposed to be easy.

I guess both sides have some merit.

I fully admit I laughed out loud at the "branch and senew" crack.

Forgive me for wanting to make an ethical kill, I am not using a branch and senew as you must be, but wish to give myself the best chance while being ethical to the animal.

LOL if you cant make an ethical kill with all of the stuff that were aloud on our bows than you might as well give up archery hunting or hunt a different state. And trust me I have as much equipment as im aloud and have never had to question "ethics" with any of my kills.
