Whether you've taken 1, none, or all,

If you could only hunt 1 of the deer species for the rest of your life which would you pick?

Each group would include all sub-species of particular animal, ie, deer includes, mule deer, whitetail, etc...

Deer
Elk
Caribou
Moose

I've hunted deer and elk so far, would love to get a caribou, but the other day a hunting show, float trip for moose, they just were so awesome.

I think I need to take my first moose hunt sooner than later and hopefully more than once!

Red deer for me, nothing compares to having the still frosty Autumn mornings shattered by the prehistoric music of a roaring stag. Their antlers structure to me is just magnificent and a free range mature red stag is the hardest deer I've ever had the pleasure of chasing.

My 2016 of free range aussie red stags.

Elk! Grew up hunting them and it definitely is in my blood! Fall wouldn't be the same without an elk hunt!

I haven't taken a wall-hanger elk yet, so that's up there. I'm thinking about going archery elk next year, and we'll see, it may really get in my blood.

Right now, it's easy - mule deer by a mile, then a buster whitetail. Moose and caribou are last in line.

This is pretty much the way I feel too. I grew up elk hunting in an elk hunting family. Never really hunted other species until I was on my own probably in my late 20's. Elk hunting and a traditional wall tent elk camp will always have a special place in my heart. Especially as I get older and some of my family/ elk hunting group passes on. I sure miss those days...

That's a tough question, but I'd probably have to go with Deer. Hunting big old blacktails in the brush is pretty addictive and hunting for a bruiser muley with the cold air and the smell off sage heavy in the air, brings back great memories of hunting with my family growing up!

I had a hard time clicking elk or moose.....but went with elk. x 2 on CHC's comments. Fall, wood stove, wall tent, friends, good food......I pretty much live for that every year and will till I die.

Shes the dog and boy does she know it!

She's my best mate too, currently sleeping against my lap as I write this post.

I write articles for a few of the hunting magazines and this photo got a full page spread in my last article, she got a cheeseburger from MacDonald's to celebrate haha

...for me it boils down to where i want to hunt, and proximity.

I've hunted Caribou in Alaska, and got to spend lots of time talking with two guys who hunted Moose (same trip...we ran in to them in the bush...and camped with them while waiting to be picked up by float planes).

Hunted lots of deer in Missouri and Nebraska.

Never hunted Elk.

For me the decision is easy = deer. Caribou was fun, but it's a long, LONG trip to Alaska (or Canada). No desire to hunt moose...they are huge and I didn't care for the meat. Elk sounds fun, but again, it's a long drive to Colorado.

I chose elk but that doesn't take into consideration the fact that physically I've only got about 10-15 good years left of being able to climb those mountains where the elk like to live. At 54 I'll be chasing muledeer for a lot longer than that.
