When I was much younger I had some of those fears. Then about 20 years ago all those worries went away. If I am going to depart this world it would be best to happen doing something I love so much. Plus it would give all the people something to remember me by. "You know ole Mark don't you". "Yep". "Did you hear he got ate by a mountain lion".
lol. yup! ol mark be cat poop now! :ROFLMAO:

I agree . and there's many worse ways to go.
besides I have always believed it is better to die at twenty then to have to live past 80~! I wouldn wish that bowl shart on no one

I absolutely love hunting solo & have done several solo hunts, including a backpack hunt into the high country of Colorado. However, it is sometimes nice to have someone to share the hunt with & also to have help to pack out a critter!

When I was still 17 the summer before I joined the Marines, I spent 3 months mostly solo in a canoe wilderness. My longest stretch without any human contact was 23 days. When you have the right partner though, shared experiences can often be the best of times. The comradery of the deer camp has been some of my best memories, but those times are mostly in the past as we one by one die, quit hunting, have health problems, etc. and compounded by virtually no deer left in our hunting area.
With my recent lion hunt, I just completed my 22nd hunt out west since 2006. In reflection, I must say that my solo trips have been my most rewarding. I do have one reliable hunting partner, but he is only able to get away (with a tag) every 3 or 4 years. I have solo backpacked & hunted in griz country, and the remote regions hold no fear for me.

Mostly solo out of state (90%) for me, for years! I love the challenge and the freedom to adjust on the fly! Plus for a iong time it seemed like no one would commit so I wasn't going to let that stop me!
Since my mom and dad passed away I still only hunt with just a few people other than my brother, Brother-in-law and kids. I still probably hunt solo about 60% of the time I'd guess

I prefer to hunt solo. I have friends but they can't always get time off. It would nice to have a buddy around when packing an elk out. I know a guy that is 81yrs old and still hunts solo and shoots an elk every year.

I've hunted solo in Montana and Wyoming. Two years ago I was coming down a draw and caught the toe of my boot on a rock only to find myself flipping over onto my back. When I woke I slowly moved each limb checking for injuries which aside from a few good bumps, scrapes and pride there were none. My point is bad things can happen in an instant. I still do hunt solo much to my wife's displeasure but not as much as when I was younger

Bad things can happen on the couch. Hunt solo and enjoy the company. Have an InReach now though.
