As I was sitting here listing to a news cast they mentioned that the CP&W are having discussions on canceling the spring turkey hunt.

That is all they said

From the CPW website;

“Spring Turkey Hunters:

If COVID-19 impacts your turkey hunting plans, CPW is waiving the 14-day minimum requirement for hunters to turn in their spring turkey license for a refund request as well as the $15 processing fee.
We will also issue customers both a full refund and restoration of their turkey preference points used to draw a returned license upon request. Licenses will still need to be postmarked and/or returned before the start of the season to be eligible for refund.”


Looks like you will get your points reinstated but not gain one for this year? Not sure but maybe not a big deal for turkeys but will not be good to lose any ground on big game points. Good to see you get your license fee back though...

Turkey season is closed for now until at least May 5th and there will be no fishing opener on April 25th here in WA state. You can't do a dame thing here in this state not even a hike in the Mts. Sucks Big Time

I haven't changed anything. Most apps are in, going lake fishing on Friday. They closed developed areas in the forest, trailheads and boat ramps where most people park but the lakes, rivers, trails, and forests are open here. A 10' inflatable doesn't need a boat ramp.

Sticking with my plans of wyo only, get my points in other states, already tried the turkey gig but it got screwed up by a kid walking around enjoying the outdoors lol hope to try at least one more time !!

No change for me; unless WY prohibits nonres from applying before I submit my app, which they haven't yet. Long before all this, realties & circumstances dictate I be on the "junk unit-budget-plan" for the forseeable future, so my hunt expenses are low.

As for fears/realities of the Pandemic? Hunting wide open public lands is prob pretty darn safe; if sick folks stay home; its when potentially contagious folks come in to the small towns to the saloons, supermarkets, & con stores where there could be serious issues. Another issue is family life: if school is closed and we're still being encouraged to make only short, essential trips; I don't see myself leaving for a week for my wife to fend for herself through all this with 7 kids, 4 of which are under the age of 12.

If school is closed in the fall but hunting is allowed, my 11 year old will be by my side in Wyoming. I believe he would learn more on a hunting trip to Wyoming than he would distance learning. I'm not sure I would be as willing if I had 7 to take though! We would be drawing straws lol.

When my brothers and I were going to Wyoming yearly several of them would take their kids out of school to come with us. The principle at their school told my brother that they would learn more in a week spent driving across the country then they would at school. I doubt that every principle sees it that way but he did.

When I was a kid in grade school my dad worked construction and we would only stay in one town usually only a month. So I would see a number of different schools during the year along with long trips through multiple states when we would head to a new job.

While I did learn a lot about geography and saw a lot of things it was very hard to get caught up when I hit a new school. We would find that one school was behind where I was in the previous school and then then next one was a couple of months ahead of the one that I just left.

Then one school I was in up in Everett Washington they were doing things quite differently. We had modules where we learned at our own pace. We would pick out the module and then go through the lessons in it. If we needed any help there was always the teacher to explain things to me. In order to pass that module we had to get a 90% or better on the test for it before we could move on to the next one. That is one school that I really enjoyed.
