Sorry to hear you cancelled your Eastman's membership.
So I guess you like Epic ... do you use any of their services?
Only Epic now...was Eastman's member for almost 10 years. I just didn't renew this year. No, I currently do not use any other services.

I only read the mag, use it as more info to make my unit choices, them and eastmans are my main 2.

I'm sure they can apply for you and do a quality job.

if when I draw a unit I would call the previous hunters who have drawn...

Have been a member of both. As UH said earlier if new to tag apps they help a lot. But both are similar. Being able to contact previous hunters on units that are drawn is quite helpful IMO. Some places just cant get to to scout so previous experiences really help a guy out. As to if one is better than another that's not for me to say as I believe both have good attributes. I have never used either as a tag service.

I've had Huntin Fool membership since 1999. I was doing an insane amount of hunt research prior to that, and bought the membership to give me some relief while raising my kids. For someone new to applying for western hunts, its a great resource to bring you up to speed. A $100 one year membership and reading the magazines will bring a person WAY up the learning curve. HF due to their years in business will have the strongest database of members who have drawn various hunts in the past. I've known their current head of research since before he went to HF and he definitely knows his stuff.

Epic is owned by Jason Carter, the son of Garth Carter who founded Huntin Fool. I had a membership with them last year (their first year), but it was too much like HF and really did not bring enough new info to me to be of value so I dropped them this year. I'm quite sure they will get better with time and I may go back in a year or two. The key guys there are all old HF guys and they know their stuff.

I have found the hunt recommendations by these two to be good. The problem being they direct a lot of people to a limited list of hunts. Their draw data has traditionally been very weak, relying on simple odds which really don't pertain in many states.

I really don't need a membership these days, but they are quite helpful to stay abreast of changes in various states. Also I like to know where the big magazines are directing traffic and I like to have a list of former members who have drawn when I draw a new area.

Umpqua Hunter?s analysis and opinions are spot on!

I still subscribe to both as well as Eastmans and Gohunt. If I had to choose between Epic and Huntin? Fool I would go with HF simply because they have a larger database of past hunters who have drawn tags and to me this is the most valuable part of their service at my stage of my hunting career. The Epic and HF magazines have essentially the same format and information though I believe the print quality and readability of HF is slightly better...

Been a HF member for 10+ years. I agree with what’s already been said. I would go with HF since both have basically the same content but HF has a larger pool of the past successful draw list.

When I first started applying out of state it was a way to really cut down on the learning curve. It made it really easy to get started. They are extremely trophy hunt oriented but the last few years started offering information on “ opportunity hunts”.

I don’t plan on being a member forever. My hunting desires have changed over the years. I don’t have a ton of interest in out of state hunting anymore. I can hunt to my hearts content here in Colorado. After I burn points in a couple states my out of state hunting applications will be very few.

If you want a few of the magazines to look through, let me know. I keep a year or two worth of the ones that have the states I routinely apply for.

Thanks Horniac,
I appreciate your comments, and I'm sure everyone on this forum will agree with you saying "Umpqua Hunter's analysis and opinions are spot on!" They always are ! :D

I found HF to be extremely helpful for me as I started to Explore hunting the west. I've subscribed since 2011. As mentioned, they gave me a great head start. I have spoken to some of the advisors who have been extremely helpful and willing the past couple years. It helped that I was Gifted my first subscription and then this year I had to finally pay partial subscription as a result of credits I had With them. That subscription led to the opportunity to write a few fitness articles for them a few years back. I was also able to speak to other hunters and get information on landowner tags in the past. HF was my resource for booking my first elk hunt. I will also add that since new ownership, there has been minimal information on their forum compared to early on in my membership and seems that several folks have either gone quiet or left on there. I'm not sure if I will renew after next years' subscription is up.

Had huntin fool given to me for two years, I didn't care for it. I didn't us them on my first moose hunt because I did my own research and wanted to interview outfitters face to face, which I did at the Sheep Show.

I subscribe to Eastmans' as well as Epic. Both are great in my opinion. Had the opportunity to sit down and talk a little with Jason Carter at the Sheep Show in January and he was great. I don't do the application thing as I like to have control of that, but as far as the magazine goes, is like everything else; we want it all, but that just isn't gonna happen. Between both Eastmans' and Epic, I can make my application choices pretty easy and/or put me in the right direction.

I was a Huntin fool member for years and dropped it as It just wasn't the same. I love eastmans magazine but the digital just doesn't work well for me and or I find it hard to use. I recently joined Epic and like it and their digital works great!
