How to Hunt Raccoons at Night?

I'm new to raccoon hunting and need some advice. What’s the best way to hunt raccoons at night?

I’ve got some basic gear, but I’m not sure how to get started. What kind of equipment should I use?

Any specific tips for tracking and luring them? Also, are there particular safety precautions I should be aware of?

I'd appreciate any advice from experienced hunters to help make my first-night hunt successful and safe.

When I was a kid my Dad used to hunt them. He hunted them at night with a couple of hounds. Usually the dogs would tree the raccoon, then shoot them with a .22 rimfire rifle. What I remember most is the mosquitos, they were fierce!

Used to hunt them with hounds, we would let the dog go in a corn field and wait for him to tree the coons. A good dog, good light and a .22 and you will have a blast.

First and foremost, check local regulations to make sure you follow all laws. If legal, the best method is to call them in. They can be called in during the day but at night they really respond. Spend some time on Google and you will find many callers and sounds that work.

Some states require the use of dogs if hunting them at night... at least Missouri used to.
