Hey guys,
Has anyone build a homemade walk in? Here in Northern California it is way too hot to hang a deer in a garage or in the backyard even if the season is late October. I was looking at like 6x8 plan with a cement floor and using a wall A/C unit with a Cool Bot converter to et it down to 38 degrees. Maybe adding a outdoor water tight receptacle inside for some power. What do you guys think?

There was 3 of us who went in on it together. Total cost was right around $600. We just used some insulated plywood for the shell and some heavy duty pipe for the rails, an AC unit with the coolbot. It will hold 4 elk quartered out. I will try to get some pics up.

Dustin, I think Largo Canyon could use one of these! The cool bot is a pretty sweet deal. Never heard of one, but looks awesome

Try and get sliding glass door refrigerator at auction or one that needs repairs I can fit a quartered elk in a two door tried to post a pic I'm Webb site stupid I put styrofoam in glass doors and covered with sliver wrap they use for hot water tanks , makes A great cooler only need to run it when I'm successful and when I'm done I hose it out and Clorox it let it dry out and then use it for cooler Storage and other camping gear keeps things organized an out of the way, expoxyed hooks on sides put a sheet of plywood cut to size on top offers more storage too and doesn't interfer with air flow when running, got mine and fixed up under 500.00.

How cold does it get with an a/c?

Just for an FYI

I bid a 8x8x8 Walkin freezer to a guy today. The box is $5k shipped. 208v single phase refrigeration equipment is $3500. Cooler is a bit cheaper.

Freezer will run 0 degrees at 100 degrees ambient. Cooler we run at 38 degrees 100 degree ambient.

That all new equipment with warranties.

The hottest ambient temp we have used it at is probably only 80 degrees, but it will maintain temps down to the low 30's without a problem in those temps. We have yet to use it during the early archery season when temps can be in the 90's here in MT but I am sure it will work fine then too. The cooler is built inside of a pole barn, so it never has direct sunlight on it which obviously helps out.

If I recall correctly, there are recommendations for the size of the A/C unit the coolbot is hooked into, based on cooler size. That and real good insulation would be keys to holding a low temp on hot days too.
