Anyone have the guide or mountaineer pac boots? Need to get some and trying to decide. Gets cold here and not sure if the guides would be enough, will be walking a bit to though. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I have been using them for years, just picked up another pair. They are thin pac boots, but i have used them for close to a decade now.

Thanks, do you think it would be better to go with the mountaineers? Unfortunately I'm to far away to go check them out. I should probably call them too

Cold weather boots -

Got a pair of the mountaineers recently and started to break them in over my vegetarian brother in laws cow elk hunt here this past 2 nd rifle season here in Co.. Yep…. No we did not get one as we could not find a cow elk, w/o a calf, in an open field. We found all 3 juat not at the same time lol..

Have a pair of schnees hunters 12” for pry 10+ years and had them redo the bottoms once they were great about it and I still use them. They have been great boots used them for a lot of things from every day cold weather stuff and hunting. No real complaints about them.

With that said I was looking for a set that is a bit warmer and after trying on a set of Hoffman mountaineers in the 14" at the hunt expo ordered a set with 2 sets of the wool felt liners. Best part about the liners it is easy to dry a set of liners and ware a set when hunting every day. It was cold at the start of the season w 12"-2' of snow and they were great over hunting 7 days. No hot spots or blisters = I put in a pair of remind insoles as they work for me have to say so far impressed. Daily hikes were in the 4-5 mile range with 2000' of elevation gain and loss. They are a heavy pac boots not a hiking boot but for me when there is snow they will be my new go to pac. They are drying by the fire as tomorrow there are rutting bucks about..

The only tag we as a family have left are my 81 year old fathers trophy cow hunt here in the 4th and I got a friend w a late strip tag so might help w that.

From here on out I am carrying a Sony w a 600-800mm lense 👍.

CoV: What constitutes a trophy cow? I shot an old cow last year in WY...she was the biggest cow that I have ever killed, and also the toughest. The locals tell me that I should shoot a calf, but I just can't allow myself to do that. Good Luck.

It is a joke or my father is around a few of us and helps us find, chase, and kill older age animals. So on the last hunt of the year we joke about chasing trophy cows for his hunt as in reality any cow is a trophy cause it fills the freezer w sausage and smoked sticks!!

In reality we try and find one w out a calf and that looks like a spike elk = that's the best eating ones!!! While he has permission to hunt pry just about any private land around here he chooses to hunt public land and that adds a layer to the onion.
