High Country Mule deer hunt

Pretty sure there aren't any grizzlies where the OP said he's planning on hunting in the Northeast part of Wyoming. That's the Bighorn's and the Black Hills area...no grizzlies there.

Actually the OP was on the western half of the state- KY hunter wasn't the OP but my mistake for not catching the change.

If I had less days to hunt then the season was long I would spend all of them during the season. Scouting is great if you can get there early and stay the whole season but if you cant then spend your time there when you can pull the trigger!

If I had only a week set aside to hunt I would want to hunt the whole week. Get there a day before opener set up camp, do a bit of scouting and then hunt the rest. That's just me though, I know scouting is important but I'd rather be able to have a rifle in hand and be hunting for that week. It would be better if you could get there for a summer scouting trip but I know how that goes with only so much holiday time, family, summer projects, previous plans, etc. Best of luck and have fun, my backpack trips into the alpine for mule deer are by far and away the highlight of my season. Fortunately I live in an area where within an hour I can be at the trailhead and into spectacular alpine areas with few if any hunters.

Is this an archery hunt? If so I would scout only day. I don't need to tell you archery will be tough, the more days to make it happen the better.

This will be a rifle hunt.

I would study maps and google earth hard find a place I wanna be go in a couple days early glass from a high advantage point then be ready to get your hunt on for the remainder of available time!!

I wouldn't consider NE WY high country, but I would practice from 60 up to 100 for a western bow hunt. This makes anything less seem like a chip shot. Get used to shooting up or down hill, many shots are missed because of elevation change. good luck
