Hello all,

Thanks to the Eastman's for setting up this forum, their publications, TV shows, and especially their Members' Research Section. I've had a little self-induced down-time this week (stairs, missing the last step, falling, 1,000 rounds of 44 Mag to improve drama and carnage, large hole in drywall, screaming, ambulance ride, etc...), so I decided to read Mike Eastman's book HUNTING TROPHY ANTELOPE. It's a great book, and it took my mind off of all the swollen body parts...

I was raised in Northern Idaho, and then spent six years in the military. Learned to fly in Alaska, moved to Colorado about twenty years ago, and still fly airplanes for a living. My 21 year-old-son is a junior in college, and yes, he's flying airplanes for a living while attending college.

My home is right smack-dab in the middle of civilization near the Denver area. I do have a little 10-acre parcel in the Northern Idaho mountains above Cataldo, way off the grid in GMU 4. My stepfather and I go up there to get away, and shoot bowling pins or steel targets that deserve it.

This seems like a good forum, with very respectful members. I appreciate that.

Thanks for letting me introduce myself.

Ray

Thanks Winchester and COdzert1,

Hoping for a speedy recovery too. I've got things to do, and places to go!

Went to Alaska in 1980 for a 2-week vacation. Called my then-boss from a payphone and told him I wasn't coming back to the Lower 48 anytime soon. Left Alaska six years later.

Hey kidoggy,

I joined the military when I turned age 17. Wanted to see the World. The Air Force sent me from Northern Idaho...to Southern Idaho! Loved being there though. Lots to do outdoors.

Yep - I'm in Parker right now. Your family wouldn't recognize it anymore. It's grown SO much in the last 20 years. Easy to get to the airport, so that works for me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Get well quick.

I moved to Alaska in 1975 and learned to fly in 1980 at Merrill field. We may have shared some of the airspace! Still flying also, mostly Supercubs and C-185's, but not commercially any longer. Still Alaskan though.

Enjoy Eastmans books, they're really good!

Hey AKaviator,

Thanks! I bet we did share the same airspace back then. I got my Private Pilot rating at the Elmendorf Aero Club, then finished up at Merrill Field.

I had on old Super Cub here in Colorado for several years, prior to selling it. It did exactly what it was supposed to do though while I had it, and that was to "hook" my son on flying. He teaches tailwheel flying now. He took me up in an Extreme Decathlon the other day, whereby I became the student, and he was clearly the teacher.

Hey Ikeepitcold,

Thanks - it's been an interesting week. I'm well into my second book: MULE DEER HUNTING TACTICS, by Mike Eastman. If I had remembered how enjoyable it is to read actual, hard-copy, no-kidding, real books again, I'd thrown myself down the stairs years ago to get some time off...

My son flew by the house yesterday and waggled-the-wings as he headed out to the aerobatic-box to practice Sportsman-class maneuvers. That made me smile. He said he saw me waving the orange Home Depot bucket at him as he went by. The neighbors learned long ago I'm nuts.

Saw the doctor yesterday. He scheduled me for an MRI tomorrow night at a downtown medical facility. Will be good to find out either way if I have MCL, or worse, ACL damage. Better yet, maybe nothing in my knee is actually bent, broken, or mutilated.

Thanks again.

Well, the verdict is in. After X-rays, a CT Scan, and a MRI, I will have surgery tomorrow for three torn tendons in my left quadricep. My good natured buddy said I've set a whole new standard for falling on "one" stair!

The biggest "suck" is the disruption to near-term plans for shooting, etc. I still plan to stumble around in the woods this Fall.

Not all is lost. I've read three Mike Eastman books in the last ten days. I've put in for resident hunts in CO, and non-resident hunts in WY and ID. That's just motivation to crank-it-out during PT.

I saw an add recently whereby Larry Potterfield said something about a guy can't have enough guns. I assumed that applied to ammo, holsters, etc. So, in lieu of buying flowers and a smpthaty card for myself.....I ordered a new holster, ammo carrier, and belt from a great guy in Wrightsboro, TX. The combo showed up yesterday, and my aching body parts feel better all ready!
