I cannot wait for April 2nd! Blind is all set up, turkeys are there, just need the time to go by. We had a litle snow of 3 inches that will keep them close for a while longer. Goal is to take one by decapitation with a bullhead broadhead, then crossbow, and then blackpowder shotgun.

Now look what you guys have done... made me get out the trail cam early... I try not to scout too early for these birds because opener is still 3 weeks away. Now I'm going to be all stressed out hoping they stick around :)
Good problem to have I guess.

These couple of weeks prior to the season I'm that ridiculous person driving around the city practicing my mouth calls. My wife doesn't let me practice at home...

Did some scouting today for a special state park tag I drew. Found over 10 toms in 3 different areas that I will get to go after along with 99 other guys.

There were 7 toms with 18 hens in my dad's field yesterday. 2 of the toms were pushing 25# and in full strut for a long time. My 12 year old son is going to try taking one with his bow. Season opens April 12 here. Good luck to everyone.

Had a family turkey hunting day with my wife, son, and daughter, with some great results. My son who is 7 wanted to do some calling this year so I picked him up a crystal pot call, which he has gotten pretty good at. We walked out some willow patches and did some calling. The last setup my son did all the calling and this gobbler came rolling in with about 12 hens, the problem was it was so thick that I couldn't tell which bird had a beard, then my son hit a few hard cuts, and he went up into full strut, bad decision at that point for him because he was only 12 yards at that point.

Birds have been dropping here, a few of my buddies have tagged some already. Can't wait to get this magazine out next week and start turkey hunting.

My son Kenny and I went out to the family farm in Nebraska this morning. Birds were roosted on the neighbors over the fence. We setup a hundred yards from the fence (on our side) which was a couple hundred yards from the roost. We had a bit of thunder this morning which produced lot's of gobbles.
We got to listen to them for an hour before the group pitched down. Without decoys we stayed in the timber and off of the field edge. I didn't start calling until then and mimicked one vocal hen and before long the group was headed in our general direction. There were strutters in the group with 6 or so hens and a bunch of jakes.
The main group skirted us 75 to 100 yards out but we were able to peel off 3 two year olds with some aggressive yelps. Kenny took this 2 year old one at 20 yards and filled the first of his three tags. kennys turkey no1 2016 pic 2.jpg kennys turkey no1 2016.jpg

Nice bird Montana. Did the little guy go or just pose with pic?
I can't wait as our season is in less than 1 week. My wife is excited for me to get a bird so I'll stop practicing my calls in the house!

He was with me... his first successful hunt with me. Little later than his sister who was 3 1/2 on her first successful hunt. Love it...
