I read where all the large firearm retailers stocked up on a lot of firearms just before the election when everyone thought that Hillary was going to win. So now they are all sitting on a large stockpile of firearms while the market for them is going down.

There might be some good sales going on this year.

Gander had removed all the mounts and photos of successful hunts a few years ago. What I was told (quietly by an employee) was that the new owners wife objected to them and they were removed in all the stores. That kind of pissed me off, and I now only go there when it is my only option. Granted, this is hearsay and isn't verified, but the mounts are still gone. I just love going into Cabela's and spend most of my time looking up instead of shopping.

I learned this morning from Gander Mountain the cannon downriggers I ordered on Feb. 21, 2017 have been cancelled. This after telling me for the last few weeks, they would ship directly from Cannon. I know they filed, I would urge others to avoid doing business with Gander Mountain , I will never buy from them again, good riddance.

I'll be different and say that I enjoy all the stores. Cabelas, Bass Pro, Gander Mountain. They are all fun to visit and it's hard to beat actually picking up an item and handling them in person. Especially boots. I do try to go during the off season when I have a lot of time to browse. Having said that I'm just like everyone else as far as price shopping. I don't mind spending an extra few bucks, but prices and tax do tend to drive me online. Brick and mortar stores (Remember Wards?) can't compete with Amazon and the like unless they're selling junk at a super low price (Walmart).

Also .22 ammo is getting back on shelves.
Saw .22 ammo for 6 cents a round today at Cabela's. $20 for 333, Winchester brand. That's close to $30 for a brick, if it was 500 rounds. Best brick price I saw was $35.

Mtnbuck, I always get lost in these type of stores because I'm looking up all the time. The only silver lining is it helps me walk past stuff I'd probably buy otherwise.

I'm cutting short a business trip to Oshkosh to head to the closing Merrillville, IN store which has two of my elk taxidermy mounts stored in their stock room. They came down back a few years ago when the store was remodeled. Some sort of façade was installed on the walls which did not lend itself to hanging critters.

Colorado Cowboy....Herters ...man that does date you how about the real Ambacromby and Fitch in New York? We still have LL Beans here in Maine. Too many stores selling the same stuff and too many fat kids looking at their smartphones. We also have The Kittery Trading Post which is a great store. If you shop at the big guy's to save 5 bucks you're local store will close.
