I am curious what every ones favorite hunts are that they do on a regular basis. After my Sheep hunt in 2018 I would love to do that every year but that ain’t gone happen. As I look forward to next years draws I find myself basing everything off of archery elk hunting. I have a few buddies that base everything off of Archery mule deer hunts. What is you go to hunt that gets your most attention when planning your season?

Hard for me to separate rifle deer & antelope. I love both, but if I had to pick, it would be deer. I am not an archery hunter, so rifle hunting is it for me. I would rather hunt mule deer than just about anything, BUT antelope gets a close second.

probably archery elk but with shoulder issues it has been a few years. now I tend to just hunt rifle for deer , elk and antelope .

can't say I really care much if I ever kill another antelope though.

past few years I find hunting to be more something I SHOULD do , then something I want to do. been so long since I drew a tag I really cared about that I find myself asking why I don't just buy a beef???????????

it's not a lifestyle ,it's an addiction.

Tough to choose. It really depends on my mood and what I want to hunt in a given year. Being a NONRES, I try to focus on what is realistic and put 100% of my effort and attention into that hunt. I love to bow hunt, but with limited time to hunt 2,000 miles away from home, I always take the rifle when hunting out of state. However, I do hunt archery tackle the first few days if and when conditions allow.
Might seem like a cop-out answer, but I love hunting them all.

I want to go deeper than my original answer. Since late 1940's, my family and some friends always went on a backcountry horseback packin deer hunting trip in California's High Sierras wilderness area. We always went to the same camp and used the same packer/outfitter. It was similar to today's spot pack. We went for over 50 years. My first trip was when I was 12 years old. There are only a few of us left (myself, my son, cousins and a few friends) and we don't go every year now. I miss the fellowship and fun we had all those years. Needless to say, backcountry horseback hunting trips are my alltime favorite hunts. I did a Thorofare elk hunt in Wyoming on my 70th birthday. It was a 9 1/2 hour 35 mile ride. Hunting was unbelievable with lots of great bucks taken over the years.

Just sayin..................

I voted archery elk but in reality, whatever tag I draw in Wyoming typically gets 100% of my focus. Unless point creep gets crazy, I should be headed there for several years in a row. If I get lucky and draw elk random before 2024, plans will shift to incorporate an archery elk hunt.
2021 - rifle mule deer
2022 - archery moose/rifle antelope for my youngest and wife
2023 - archery/rifle antelope
2024 - archery elk

How about none of the above along with all of the above plus others.

I've been having fun hunting ever since I was old enough to go hunting, it didn't matter what I was hunting I have always had fun. From the times when we were freezing in the Utah mountains to roasting down in Arizona I have enjoyed every one of them.

There is just something about watching the sun come up over the eastern hills and seeing the shadows disappear on the opposite side of the canyon, or listening to the desert come alive down in Arizona. Just sitting and listening is all I need to do to enjoy it.

Then as I get older I am finding that I enjoy it even more, if it is throwing rocks at the stupid small bucks or watching the majestic 6x6 bull elk when all I have is a spike tag in my pocket. There have been a number of years when I have just watched the animals with never placing the stock of my rifle to my shoulder, then there are the years when there is 30 seconds of frantic excitement as that bigger buck walks out into the open and I try to get into a shooting position.

I enjoy it all.

My absolute favorite is Sitka blacktail deer on Kodiak Island. I've been hunting them since the late 1970's when the limit was 7. I've only shot a couple with a bow, no clue how many with a rifle.

A close runner up would be caribou.

I agree. I grew up on Kodiak and I miss hunting those little deer. Nothing beat and alpine hunt in august where everything was emerald green or a crisp November rut hunt when the grass was all golden brown and the deer have seemingly no fear of people. Defiantly a fun one.

to be totally honest though I preferred hunting fox on Kodiak to the deer. When I was a kid I Actually made a little money hunting and trapping them. Those are some of my fondest memories.

Nothing like looking over 100’s of bucks above 11,000 ft scouting then hunting the biggest one.

Or it looks like I am the first to pick archery mule deer. Yea for me easy choice as there is nothing like it.

I would love to pack in and chase the mulies up high in late aug and sept. problem is that is our busiest time at work and it is very tough to get time off work so it is very seldom an option for me other then maybe a weekend or two.

Man it is a insane amount of time I can understand that. I am lucky that I live in a very central location as pertains to some of the best mulies anywhere in the world. I set up my life/work so that I can allocate the necessary time to both scouting a hunting. I also just enjoy the process of it.

I get asked quite a bit to go here and hunt that or folks wonder why I pretty much stick close to home and pretty much hunt mulies. Reason is time... If I honestly put in the time and effort needed for deer I don’t have much left lol.

Archery elk hunting for me. Here in Oregon it is the only thing besides Blacktail deer I can consistently hunt annually and feel I have a very good chance at success. I’m horrible at sitting in one spot for very long so glassing or sitting on a stand isn’t my cup of tea. I like to move and make things happen.
i drew a sheep tag about ten years ago and I glassed canyons for two weeks before I found a ram to shoot. It was the most excruciating hunt I ever went on. Sitting in one spot for 9-10 hours and not seeing a thing was horrible, I had to self discipline more than ever. I’m the end I was rewarded for my efforts but it’s not a hunt I would ever want to do again.

I’d have to say whatever tag is in my pocket! I just love every aspect of hunting whether it be with a rifle, bow, or muzzleloader. Timber, mountains, Sandhills...I’ll take it all! But if I had to pick...mulies all day!

I like the ease of antelope hunting - see plenty of critters, crawl around on the ground, what's not to like?
