Two years ago I had one show up while I was field dressing a deer. I did not see it, I heard a couple very soft footsteps and then I started talking and singing out loud (I was by myself). It was after dark, I dressed the deer, propped him up and hiked the two hours out. My buddies made fun of me when I told them back at camp that something was in there with me when I was dressing the deer, the next morning when we hiked in to get the meat a lion had been on it and we could see his tracks exactly where I thought I had heard it the night before. He ate a little bit of the hams, and all of the heart, lungs, liver and lapped up the blood. Then buried the carcass with leaves and debris.

in 2004 I was elk hunting. I had the hair stand up on the back of my head. I turned around and 20 paces out was a mtn lion. I put the cross hairs on his chest, but did not feel threatened. I put the gun down and took a step towards him. he casually turned around and walked off.

in 2017, I was being watched as I was breaking my elk down. I came back to scare a brown animal off of the carcass. I later came back a week later and the lion was bedded down next to the carcass. I took him in the chest at 60 yards.

One of my friends and I found a track in fresh snow so we started following it. We started out in about 10” of snow and ended up following it far enough off the mountain that there was barely enough snow to even see its tracks. Before we ran out of snow, we saw where the cat started tracking a hunter. The hunter’s tracks hit a road and the cat continued to follow. We went around a few corners and found the hunter in his truck. He said that just after he had returned to his truck, here came the mountain lion, it stopped, looked at the truck, then bailed off the side of the road.

Several years later, my dad and I had a mountain lion sneaking in on us while I was trying to call in a moose for my dad.

Fly fishing just past non-official sunset on the South Platte River... Muddy trek for the final cast. No luck. Walked backed up the same trail I had just come down. Tall grass. Big-ass cat tracks now in the mud. 44 slid out of fanny pack, and expedited back to truck. I know what it feels like to be hunted.

Took the dog for a walk in the subdivision I used to live in after dark. Edge of it had a creek that followed a sheer cliff for a while. Got to the creek and dog goes stiff and hair stands up on his back. I finally get him to keep moving. Hear some noise on the other side of the small creek. Figure it’s some kids being dumb. I yell but my dog won’t bark or stop being on alert. Follow creek for another hundred yards or so and can hear something following on other side of creek and just get this weird feeling we are being hunted. Go home. Sleep in the next morning. Get up and take dog for morning walk and there are bright orange posters from game and fish everywhere warning about a mountain lion in the area.

Sitting on a ridge looking for elk through the spotting scope. Have a snack and pack up as it’s getting hot. Take two steps and notice movement. Cat walking above and to my right away from me at 30 yards. Basically ran back to the truck with pistol in one hand and big rock in the other.
