Well I have to say I was not looking forward to last nights workout, I was not just sore from the previous workout but uncomfortably so. This morning, I am barely sore and I can feel my muscle groups tightening back up – feels great! I am headed back home to Montana this weekend for my sons first birthday and to visit family for Easter but believe me, I will still be doing the workout and not eating above my 2,000 calorie limit (that's going to be tough with all the chocolate bunnies bouncing around). I have a couple hikes in mind IF I can get down the trail with 5' of snow still on the ground. I will be sure to take pictures and post them up for you guys next Tuesday.

Motivational quote for the weekend and I don't know who to credit: "If it's important to you, you'll find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse."

Have a great Easter and I will check back in with you all next week.

One thing I've learned at 72 is the longer you put it off the harder it will be. When I first started the "battle" , I set very minimal goals. I got a personal trainer and started. She gradually got me going and we modified my goals to a more aggressive approach.
One thing I did myself was to start my eating modification with simple portion control. Smaller portions, almost no seconds and desserts. Cut my alcohol down, only a beer or 2 during the week and almost no other booze. My goal was to lose 1# a week. Ended up at 2#.

Still really watch what I eat and drink, go to the gym and walk 3 to 4 miles daily, all year when the weather permits. After getting lazy for years, things have gotten a lot easier in the mountains (for an old man!) and I need to stay with the "program" if I want to keep doing this into my 80s and even older!!!

The real problem is lots of problems with my joints that I abused for years when I played HS and college sports. Can't do a lot except get them fixed if possible and keep pushing. Have a new knee and probably will need an ankle soon as my recent ankle surgery revealed.

Man I sure hope I can be hunting like you at 72 years old! You are an inspiration CC. Hunting the mountains for another 35 years sounds pretty dang good to me! The real motivation should be the alternative.....

Hey Hilltop, 72 ain't old!! LOL
I've got to make it as long as my dad did...at least. He shot his last elk when he was 90.

Well, we're a little over a week into the challenge and I've managed to shave off 4.5 lbs. just by doing the simple workout that Team Turvey listed early on and cutting out foods with artificially added sugars. Dang! It is weird not eating candy and other dessert items and not drinking pop (soda)!!!

Have a good Easter and be string in the gave of chocolate bunnies and eggs :)

good luck guys. what I have seen in my life. is what you guys are wanting is a lifestyle change, not just loose weight. Good luck and you will be more successful, if you can incorporate fitness into your life. also remember it took you along time to get where you are, it will take along time to get where you want to be.

I saw this post on Eastmans Facebook page and had to join up here. Thanks for the info.

I guess I am in the big man club also and have been trying to cut off some pounds. I am 6ft 220+ lbs. I have been doing light weight work outs and at the minimum an hour on the treadmill 3 times a week. Just got my mountain bike fixed and ready to add a couple of more workout days to the weekly routine. With the workout and dieting I am down 7lbs so far. Anyway, thanks for some ideas and motivation!!!

check out shaun t's, focus t25 work outs. only 25 minutes a day, and there is a lady on the video showing the easier modified versions for those just starting out. great workout video that gets results, and it can be done before work, very easy.

So, how do I join the challenge?
Start following the workout Dan posted and post here as often you can about results and how you feel! This is about encouraging each other through this process!

If we can make a 5k work in the Park county region we will let all of you know!

Well, here is todays workout.

Conquered it in about an hour, with 50lbs on my back. 3 miles hiked round trip.

If you want to find out how out of shape you are bring along a 19 year old kid...

The challenge came on the downhill side which came in the form of a drift. You can see the route we took down.....

Sorry for only having cell pictures.

Looks like a good Hike. I have been walking the hills each day at work on my break. Only a mile to a mile and a half for now but being that the weather has finally decided to start to cooperate, the girlfriend and I will be starting to do our 5 mile walks in the evenings.

Okay, I’m IN!! I need something to keep me motivated, and this just might be it. I’m not going to pick a team, because I’m sure nobody wants me on their team…”I am an ARMY of one”. Alright, army may not be the best description, unless you consider a 3 member Brownie troop to be an army.

So here are the stats:
Height – 6’0
Weight – 238…ouch, it is one thing to know something, but to see it in writing makes it sting a little bit more
Body Fat % - no idea other than high

One thought I did have while reading the thread, how about an Eastmans’ Outdoor Challenge instead of a 5k? I’ll be honest; I would rather be waterboarded with elk “scent” than run around the block, much less a 5k. Nothing too competitive, just a friendly trail run/walk, throw in a shooting challenge or two (archery and/or rifle), maybe even a station were you have to glass for something or setup a tent….the possibilities are endless. And, we are right in the middle of 2 mountain ranges. Just a thought

Good luck everyone

I'm in. What works best for me is a morning workout with, don't laugh - a bunch of women in a cross-fit class that pushes me past what I can push myself to do on my own - 3 days a week. One night I do a 50-minute core workout and the other weights.

That's not the hard part, though. That would be cutting way down on snacks, which is not that easy working from home. My goals are to drop 30 lbs by mid-October and get my back and shoulders used to a 40 backpack. I start in the morning.

OK, so here are my stats - 217 lbs, 6 ft, don't know my body fat or my ideal weight because its been so long since I've been at it and have probably lost some muscle over the last so many years.

I'm a 38 waist now and would like to see 34 again. I'm going to shoot for 185 lbs and because of my age (60 in August), keep my calories to 1,600. You just don't burn too many at this age, especially sitting at a computer 10 hours a day.

I must confess my sins – a few chocolate eggs didn't survive this weekend, read that as diet challenge failed for a day or two. My sons birthday combined with the Easter holiday proved to much. So, I am going to double the workouts. Not only am I getting stronger and feeling better, but I am to the point where I need to up the set count to feel the burn. I also managed to get my 55-year-old father to start the challenge with me this weekend as well. He quickly learned how out of shape he really was and what potential whooping the mountains had in store for him this fall. Hold strong and get ready to run, as I think that phase is starting in a week or two.

How did you guys fair over the holiday?

I also failed the diet challenge this weekend. My wife has become the workout and diet sergeant lately, but she made prime rib for Easter. That is one thing that is hard for the me and portion control. Plus the chocolate eggs. Back at it this week. I was down 10 pounds before Easter, so there is some progress. I need to get more consistent with the exercise, and no soda. I think that is my next phase. Work has gotten busy, so I have used that as an excuse, but I had better not anymore.

Those cross-fit girls are tough. I wouldn't laugh at a workout with them, if I could even finish one.
