Flyfishing mountain streams in September is as good as it gets. Elk bugling.....crisp mornings.....golden aspens...... It's hard to beat that too.

Following up a September fishing trip in Colorado with an October elk hunt in New Mexico doesn't suck either. I passed a couple almost trophy bulls, but my son got his first elk. Filled up his freezer.

I hear this a bunch about retiring and hunting.

Jack Atcheson Sr. signed my copy of his book he wrote ...that was a long time ago, and I paid attention:

"Hunt while you can. Many people wait until they retire, by then, its too late for all kinds of reasons".

I agree, not waiting to hunt, I hunt every chance I can, would like to hunt in a state w/more opportunity.

Tim also makes a very valad point that there is a lot more to do in the hills than hunt.. Rivers and water in the frozen state take more of my time than I care to admit.

Some guys love whatever their choice of “endless summer” is but for me I need a balance of activities that cycle through every year.

Yup, it’s all about the time there. Simple hikes with my kids have been some of my favorite memories so far and I can’t wait for more of them.
