Yeah, plus the guy I'm going up with is like 20 years younger than me and our planned route has a total of 3500' or so of up/down elevation change? Luckily he tolerates my "dad breaks" really well! :D
A lot is going to depend on how you go up onto the Flat Tops. I can still see snow up there off of I-70 here in Gypsum. Some area according to the SnoTel sites still have 10"+.

Taskswap,
Like Jim said, lots of snow still up there. Elk calving areas are closed till roughly 21 June so that limits a considerable amount of access points. Be safe.

2nd season... I would love to have one of the better hunts for this unit. I've had the opportunity to hunt with others during these better options (archery, muzzle, 1st rifle). But I've waited 10 years now and that's WAY longer than I ever anticipated waiting! After this, I'm done collecting points. I'll grab a 61 cow tag every other year or so then hunt archery elk in OTC units on the off years.
2nd season is fine in there.
You'll see lots of folks on the divide road but most will be hunting 62 ... as you know.
I got my bull in there during 2nd season two years ago.
PM me if you want to discuss.
You should have a great hunt ... good luck!!

The leftover draw emails are out.

I asked for one for elk and after looking at it nothing interested me except for the hunts that were on private property.

Same here, I got the deer list as well. I'll be watching the list later on for returned tags though, just in case.

Its a sad list indeed.
I haven't gotten the list as I drew. But didn't even ask for my kids. In a unlit wr each had 2 elk tags a few years ago we no longer draw. There used to be hundreds of leftovers. I think the herd went far lower than they expected or paid attention to.
In a record snow year this year I saw only a few elk along the highway all winter. Used to be herds scattered the entire trip to work on hwy 82.

Dang....I just looked at these. I'm dreaming if I think I am ever going to get that rifle deer tag I've been after.

Holy spokes that was a BIG point jump.

Point creep in every single area I was looking at trying to draw into for Elk as well. :(

Oh well, its how the game is played I recon!

I always get a kick out of reading the recap. 60% drew the buck tag I wanted. 55% drew the tag my son wanted.
For moose someone drew with 1 point more than me and 1 point less. Lol
Someday this will all come together

I'm thinking I may apply for a female goat tag next year. My odds are much better.
And I don't wanna wait until I'm in my 60s if things don't go well

Things are a-changing.

Don't forget that this is the year CO changed how they do points - might just be folks getting out of the game.

Even tho I live here, I probably won't be hunting Colorado this year. I have the points necessary to draw Wyoming for deer and antelope in the units I want to hunt. I applied for points in everything here. Depending on situation, I could buy an otc bull tag for 2nd or 3rd. seasons.

I had to call my brother in law to make sure that he drew his unit 21 deer tag. I looked at the draw results and saw that 1 hunter who had more than enough points didn't draw so that got me to wondering since I hadn't heard anything from him.

It turned out that this successful email went to the spam folder and they hadn't looked at it yet.
