Well, if you have never written your state representative now is the time to start.

I am sure that you have heard that new bills were introduced on Thursday pertaining to firearms by the Liberal controlled Legislature.

They are:

HB 1219 which is a 3 day waiting period after you pass a background check. While this sounds good it will be a pain in the rear for anyone who has to drive to a store that sells firearms. My closest dealer with any inventory is 50 miles away.

HB 1165, has to do with shooting a firearm on private property. This one was tabled once but it looks like it may be resurrected.

SB 169, up the age to purchase a long gun, rifle or shotgun to 21

SB 170, increase who can file for the Red Flag law. This is the only one that I could even think of backing

SB 168, would remove an immunity provision for civil lawsuits against gun store owners and manufacturers

Then there is a bill that is still in the works to ban the sale of "assault weapons" From what I have seen they are arguing about definitions on this one

You can read a little bit more on each bill here, or do a search on the bill number such as Colorado HB 1219 2023 to read the full text of the bill.

To find the email of your State Representative you can go here to find it

While I am planning on writing my two legislator's I am crossing my fingers that they'll listen to me. The last time that I did it on firearm bills I didn't even get a return email.

I figure that we don't have much of a chance of changing their minds but we have to try, at least where I live with two Democrats as representatives.

At least neither of their names came up as sponsors of any of the bills.

Surprising enough I just heard back from my State Rep on my letter. It kind of sounded like lip service but at least I heard back from her.

Sofar nothing from my State Senator

Guys, i encourage all to help with this. everyone should help by sending a email or letter. i live in Oregon and the bill we are dealing with now is a serious PITA. What the loudest voice gets is what they want. As firearms enthusiast or hunters we need all the help we can get from each other no matter which state is trying to force another rule upon us.

Soooo...let me get this straight..........NR's should now help the same people who just pushed to cut NR tags to improve their own draw odds by 1%?

Ya, I'll get right on that letter. lol

Good deeds followed by punishment, or it is punishment followed by good deeds???....Either way, nobody knows, and I can't tell the difference anymore.

It's the new way of life, I guess.

Not shooting at you @mallardsx2 - just commenting.

This is the kind of disunity that's gonna sink the gun owners and hunters. "I'm not in a hurry to try and save XYZ because of what they did to me." Then XYZ falls and the opposition is on your doorstep, and you got not help.

Not a pretty picture.

I get what you are saying. I truly do. BUT, it works both ways though, right?

A random stranger who just punched you in the nose asks you for help to change their flat tire....
OR
You help a random stranger change their flat tire and then they punch you in the nose...

Regardless of when it happens, how many tires will you change for random strangers going forward?

I find it hard to join forces with people who punch me in the nose. Not saying I won't get over it. But right now, it's still stinging.....

Totally get it and feel the same way.

Not sure if there is a correct answer for the whole issue. This is where the opposition has us beat. They ALL want the SAME thing and don't have factions that lean one way or another.

We struggle against each other (R/NR, gun laws, etc.) and against the opposition.

With the hunting we have to add in the stuff reducing the herds too - disease, drought, snow, predators, poor F&G decisions, etc.

Tough to catch a break.

I don't think that it would carry much weight for me to chime in on Oregon's Laws or someone from Oregon writing a letter to a Colorado Legislature.

But we do need to be aware of what is being passed in other states. I was hoping that all of the Colorado folks on the forum here would seen this post and then do some letter writing or sending emails.

However some of these bills if passed and signed into law could effect non residents if they plan on hunting here in Colorado, likewise if someone from Colorado went to another state to hunt. If some were aware of what was passed and became law back in 2013 they would understand how some of these laws effect everyone, including non residents.

Jim i agree completely. i dont think my voice is heard by colorado. but i do feel we as outdoorsman and hunters need to help keep others informed and ourselves.

Mallard-
im not happy about losing tag percentages either. but argueing about tag allocations wont mater when just getting our guns into another state may need some stupid permit or permission from local authorities just to use it on a hunt..

This is where people need to join a organization that will fight for our rights when it comes to firearms.

I don't care which one you join or support but join and support one of them.

And before anyone starts to talk about the corruption in some of them you need to ask yourself, are they effective and are they doing any good.

Well said!
Michigan is in the process of passing new gun legislation also. Our opposition is never going to stop and they are united while we fight among ourselves.
